Replacing the TBI engine, suggested upgrades or changes?

grab the PROM from the 5.7. you will need it. I also assume you are using the TBI from the 350 with the 350 injectors? I think 305 and 350 trucks used the same ECM, just different PROMs. I'd keep the 350 stock cam. straying too far results in the need to get a custom tune.

    1990 TBI misfire/popping exhaust

yeah, inspecting the cap excess carbon is a good idea. and I agree on not skimping on ignition components!

might double check to make sure you have the firing order correct.

    1990 TBI misfire/popping exhaust

EGR is closed at idle. so unplugging the vac to EGR doesn't do anything at idle. manually opening the EGR, or using a mityvac to open the EGR, should cause it to bog at idle. I'd hit up the fuel and emissions manual and look at the "symptom" charts for backfire and misfire. I think section 2...

    O2 Sensor

uh- I did read it. this is what you wrote - "It doesnt take much heat to operate the O2S, they all should have internal heaters. Is the heater working?" i don't consider the exhaust heat to be an "internal heater" but I am also not a drunk mechanic. maybe that's where I am missing...

    O2 Sensor

Single wire O2 has no heater and relies on exhaust to heat it up.

LED exterior light conversion! not going well :(

I just used LED on headlights and auxillary fog lights where it really matters and kept the rest incandescent. I have seen too many threads about issues LEDs in turn signals to even want to try it elsewhere

What have you done to your square lately??

that's all it does to attach. move the throttle to WOT with your hand and see if the cable appears tight

What have you done to your square lately??

just move the throttle all the way to WOT at the tbi. if the cable is tight like a guitar string, you should be fine. it may click a time or too if it was too tight before as it properly adjusts

What have you done to your square lately??

that black thing a few inches past the cable end is the clip. reattach it....quickly. TV cable is very important to the transmission functioning and not burning up. that's why I asked about it back in post 22,658 of this thread.

    Headers and O2 sensor

If you're running good as is, and with the limitations of TBI, I'd just leave the exhaust manifolds on there. Headers wont add much from what I've read. Look at a new exhaust coming off the manifolds if you need a new exhaust system.

What have you done to your square lately??

TPS position only affects TCC lockup on a 4L60 with TBI. Shifts are very much controlled by the TV cable. I'd ask the shop if they made any adjustments to it when they tightened the intake manifold.

remove the vertical piece on the ductwork that you can see under the dash. then you can watch the door operations and look for issues before diving deeper.

Engine light comes on while driving

if you have code 42 randomly popping, I'd be looking hard at the distributor cap and plug wires for signs of carbon tracking indicating spark leaving and zapping the ICM wires. I had a random code 42 for a while until I was going to swap the ignition control module with a spare to see if it was...

Engine light comes on while driving

Like the other post said, the codes are stored for 30 starts or so. You can pull the code now. there are only a couple of systems that self test that set a light that would go away on the next start. Those are EGR operation and Knock Sensor operation. EGR self tests under steady highway...

    Headlights

I think the headlights are on a circuit breaker instead of a fuse. so if something is shorted it gets hot and trips, cools off, and then comes back on, and then trips again when it gets hot. I'd be looking at wiring issues, particularly a short to ground in the high beams if the low beams work...

    TBI diagnosis reminder

    TBI diagnosis reminder

87 1500 Not Getting Power to TBI Injectors

Looks like A6 comes from ECM I fuse to ECM. It should only be 12v with key ON. If the fuse pops on key ON. You have a short to ground. I had an issue one time where ECM I was shorted to ground on a wire running to the TCC solenoid. Sometimes odd things are powered in odd places....

    headlight/seat belt buzzer

I appreciate my buzzer also. I've heard you can swap to a module that has a less obnoxious tone...but I don't mind the old school buzz reminder for the rare occasions i need a reminder.
