    Mechanics have always been bad about putting them back on after removing them to gain access to something else. Not all mechanics of course, but many. Oh, I forgot to mention that my '88 4x4 Suburban with 350/700/208 came with the brace.

    Correct, the 88's still used the 208. The 241 was used in the squarebody until '89 and it was the only year for the 241 wirh a cable speedo. Incorrect about the brace though. Your truck definitely had one to begin with.

    Also, the truck is an automatic but has the little brake pedal. The only trucks that got the little pedal was a manual trans, or an automatic with manual brakes. Pretty sure 4x4's came standard with power brakes.

    No to the 5.3 brackets. Size of the balancer doesn't matter, they all have the same size hub bolt pattern. What bolt is in the way? That doesn't sound right at all.

    That will be interesting to know. I ran without fender wells on my C10 for a couple months and never noticed any buildup inside the fenders. But like I said, it was just a short amount of time and that's something I never even thought to pay attention to.
