Want to swap my 6.2 hard to start

Fixing the 6.2 will be much faster and cheaper than any engine swap.

    Good enough or perfection

I've had a few "tropheys" in my day. Too nice to take the dog in and bed too nice to put anything in. All are gone and the squares are untouched real patina trucks. No problems going to the Twp. mulch pile and filling it up. Blazer goes into restoration next month, that's a different story.

60 days in on my 90 day rebuild. Goin to try a motor upgrade next. Any advice on going from a 350 to a 454?

I already know that I'm like a broken record, but I would put in a 400 and truly simplify the swap. Big block torque and small block budget.

I have a couple with no problems. Maybe the problem is you.

    Settling on timing

I would just move 2 or 3 degrees at a time and settle where the engine runs the best. If you can hear some pinging , retard. If it struggles to start it's probably too far advanced as well.

    "Oldsmobile Diesel" Conversion to gas

Even though I have the 6.2 in mine, I'd give that 350 a shot before moving on, as long as you're not in a hurry to get somewhere!

X pipes make very little HP but will help for a drone situation. Unneeded IMHO.

Original or crate engine? 1976 k5 blazer Cheyenne

If you really want to put a smile on your face while leaving the stoplight, put a 400sbc in it with an RV style cam , quadrajet, and hedders. You can keep the gears tall and it will be fine on the interstate.

What’s the best way to fix/clean up this wiring problem?

Cleaning up that mess of wires is not going to solve your drain issue.

    Power loss with aggressive acceleration

I had a small block that slowly lost power once. It was a cam and timing chain issue

    Loose timing chain replacement

Crank gear does not need to be removed to install a timing chain but cam gear will have to be unbolted.

How does this sort of thing happen????

Have you checked to see if the outer bolt tab has not broken from the block? It appears to be a problem for SBC, BBC, and 6.2 diesel.

    Modified engine crewcab gas mileage?

I'm always amused by how much money people are willing to spend to squeak out another MPG or two in their square. Gas is cheap and getting cheaper under the new administration. Just fill it up and run it.

    First major project vehicle!

Make sure the outer engine block tab for the starter is not broken as it is a weak spot for the 6.2. There are fixes but none are very easy. Also make sure you use the bracket on the back of the starter. You may have to fabricate one if it is missing.

    New K1500 Project Owner

I don't run spares in any trucks. You can find a 12v compressor with sealant for about $50. That will give you about a 50/50 chance of making it home and not calling a rollback. Many new cars have no spare.

Replacement Panels - All Created Equal - Yes or No?

I've been using LMC for over 20 years. I never had a problem. I have seen videos on YouTube where most of the original GM dies were sold and transferred to Taiwan . Keep in mind , inner rockers and floor pans ,as well as cab supports, don't have as much impact as quarter panels or door skins.
