‘83 K5: how to seal underbody cavities behind rear fenders?

There is not. You'll need to make your own. When these were built, there was an inner quarter panel for lack of a better term. I'm working that now with my Suburban and yes, its a PIA. Ideally, that would be in place and welded tp the outer panel, but looks like yours was cut out and nothing...

Kobalt vs dewalt for a sawzall

For me, buying the same platform makes the most sense. I've got mostly Dewalt now so I can swap batteries. Have used many diff vendors for many years, once everyone made the swap to to LI-ON most are pretty good. If you have a few of one mfg, think seriously before going to others.

New impact: air vs battery powered?

I have multiple, both air and battery. The latest is DEWALT 20V https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-20V-MAX-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-1-2-in-Impact-Wrench-Kit-DCF900P1/317991282 . It has enough torque to shear rusty 3/8 bolts in a second lol. It is serious heavy, but can take it with me on the road...

Looked at a truck today, odd rust, thoughts

I have/had similar rust and it is/was definitely from drip rails. The inside of the roof is marginally painted at best. Any water that gets in will rust and over time, you'll see exactly this. Once I used urethane to seal mine up, problem gone. But you'll want to do all the drip rails. This is a...

    Suburban Tailgate internal wiring harness

I've been searching for but not finding any source for a NEW suburban tailgate internal wiring harness. Asked American Autowire to consider adding one today. Does anyone have a suggestion beyond boneyard? 3D printing of connectors esp. for the key switch seems like it could be a thing.

Wanted: 1985 suburban rear tailgate glass roller spring part

I started looking for one of these yesterday and they are nowhere to be found. From the parts book illustration the roller is item #28. LEVER, Rem Cont Blockout . Part # 339984. Based on that description its purpose is to prevent the operation of the inside latch to open the tailgate (see...

    Led headlight mod

I tried Holley Retro Brights and the RF interference made my radio unusable. Ended up swapping for halogens and a new harness from this guy https://www.danielsternlighting.com/ His stuff is worth a read.

Ceiling mounted grab handle mounting points

@Ricko1966 - Plusnuts are definitely good for this! But its been over 20 years since I've had the headliner out so not sure what's up there to mount Plusnuts into. Figured I'd need to add some metal first so was hoping someone has pics

Ceiling mounted grab handle mounting points

I'm looking to add ceiling mounted grab handles like these https://www.ebay.com/itm/297085982446 to my 83 Suburban which does not have any. Does anybody have photos of the mount points in the ceiling. Presume I'll need to weld something up there.

whats every body using.. looking for a new stereo head unit

I'm really happy with my swap to the Sony and it sounds way better than the 20 year old Kenwood. That said-I would not have done it if I didn't have that expensive head unit sitting on my shelf gathering dust. New ones are crazy expensive. Think it went up a couple hundred bucks since I bought...

We’d Love Your Input — Help Us Improve the Site!

It would be super helpful to change search so we can search a whole string instead of just words by putting it in quotes like "tailgate glass" so we didn't have to weed through a bunch of irrelevant stuff. I also think it would be helpful add more categories to the tech sections. They are...

whats every body using.. looking for a new stereo head unit

I bought the Sony XAV-9000ES head unit for my 2018 Outback and took it out because Subaru replaced my stock unit for free after lots of back and forth. Since it was sitting around and not returnable I decided try to replace my 15 year old Kenwood. The unit works great in my 1983 Suburban...

    Dog ramps for suburban

@YakkoWarner - Thanks I thought of that too, but I sent the ramp back to Amazon since I figured I'd need to build my own in the end- so why waste $118 for a ramp that is too short and steep. @goldpack You are right about the length. Think it will need to be seven feet or more to make it shallow...

    Dog ramps for suburban

I've got a new rescue lab. He's big and strong, but his hind legs are weak from being penned up for several years so he's super timid with stairs or anything that depends on his hind legs (But he'll jump right off a dock!). We've been working with him for several months and he's getting better...

What have you done to your square lately??

Swapped out my gnarly old sway bar bushings for pretty red Energy Suspension ones. Sanded the bar and painted it while out.
