I'm not a fan of horsepower ratings on trucks or towing vehicles. Did he say how much torque? Any low end torque?

Unless you are planning on running it at a higher RPM where all your horsepower is, who cares?

I'm running 37s with 4.10s. The truck used to feel really quick with my 383 (444 ft/lbs) and 33s. Now with the 37s it still feels faster than stock with the 400 but not "quick". I still have more than enough power for hills at highway speed. Haven't towed my 5th wheel yet with these new tires...

And I thought that chart was the real actual physical size of the tire- not what is stamped on the sidewall. So you'd need to measure from the ground to the centerline of the hub then take that times two. A 37" will be 35"-36" depending on the tire. (unless you run 80 psi in them and there is zero tire squat).

With my 4.10s and an auto TH350 and lets say a 36" tire that puts me right in the middle of the green balanced power band.

Horsepower, nothing but horsepower, all that matters is horsepower. Torque is for *******. You should know that.

I did just order one of these for my tow vehicle. Gonna show up those 1 ton dirty diesel trucks pulling 30,000 lbs up passes.

Then i strongly advise 4.88 or even 5.13 before your rwhp goes to 0 because the trans melted down
What transmission should I run with overdrive in it paired with 4.56 gears

If you plan to use it for what it is, I would source a 4L80 to put in there.

That is what I plan on sticking behind a mediumly spicy 454 one of these days.
I feel that the kid that drives the truck daily will have less chance killing that one...

Theres but a few with OD that's worth dealing with, but i think yoi misunderstood.
That 700r4 "would be" ok, but you need better gears in conjunction with it. Like the 4.88 or 5.13.

Alternate transmissions that arent so wimpy to heat and big tires are a 4L80e, 6L80e. (Overdrive units)

A solid th400 (3 speed auto, non OD), would survive those tires, but again. Your first gear in a th400 is 2.48.... which is a compounded issue...
A 700r4 is like, 3.06 first gear, but the 1-2 transition is lame unless you have appropriate gearing.

If you're running a stock 700r4 with 400 at the crank, on 4.10s with 37s, that thing is gonna come to hate life quickly lol
