Getting ready to place an order for new dash pad.
Most of the “quality” ones are molded urethane , textured, OE “look.”
The most expensive ones are vinyl wrapped. presumably just like OE?
Anyone compare the differences?
Not building a show truck here, but I’ll spring for the vinyl wrapped if the urethane ones are noticeably fake or plastic looking.

The urethane ones I've seen (only 2 or 3) have been all warped and wavey looking. They were kinda floppy too. I have no idea if they all come from the same manufacturer either.

Good to know.
Presuming the vinyl wrapped ones have to be rigid so for not much more $ sounds like the way to go.

The vinyl wrapped ones are made the same way as the original dash pads. I have a new vinyl wrapped dash pad for my c20 and it looks the same as the old one. Except for the cracks, faded color and rusty clips :D
I never saw a urethane one live so I can't tell the difference.

Urethane is thin and some fit ok... others... crap.
Like sheet meta; fro Asia or Mexico, the quality ia all over the map. The decent urethane ones are totally fine imo, but they are also kinda unicorns..

Well I found a hard backed vinyl wrapped one in the right color for about the same as the middle of the road priced urethane ones so I’m convinced that’s the right one.
Thanks

So who'd you end up using for the pad? I'm looking to do my dash on my '84 GMC.

I ordered it from The Truck Shop. They have 10% off right now as well. It was $309.
They don’t have the vinyl wrapped ones in their catalog. I asked about it.
I’ll let y’all know how good of quality it is when it arrives. Idk exactly when that is, as they’re not exactly Amazon, lol.

I tried searching for them with little luck. Is that the name of the website?

I just went through this on my k5. Urethane is a POS. It has the metal support like the original but wavy and floppy.
For an extra ~100 I went with the vinyl wrap which is the closest to original in the aftermarket.
Cheyanne pickup parts. Like any aftermarket part it needed a little massaging going in but looks great.

^Thats the one. Their prices seem a bit better than some of the other places and quality was good on a bunch of parts my buddy got for his ‘72. I’ll find out soon enough.
