I have a 1977 C10. Speedometer doesn't work. I replaced the cable and confirmed the dash was working with an electric drill on the transmission side of the cable. I then replaced the little bullet shaped adapter and gear (it was red) in the side of transmission (I needed to anyways, it was leaking), and it still isn't working. An I right in thinking that I have eliminated all possibilities except for the other gear, inside the transmission? If so how big of a project is this and how do I know what gear to get to replace so I'm ready with the parts I need?
Thanks in advance

What transmission is it? Try turning the driveshaft, see if the gear in the bullet is spinning. The speedo gear can be reached by removing the extension housing. Most likely the speedo gear on the output shaft is stripped, or the clip that holds the gear in place has broken. I would suggest looking for the remains of the clip, I had this exact issue on a TH350 I built for a friend. He said his speedo stopped working, found the clip broken, replaced it, reassembled it and all was good. A week later, he said it was stuck in 1st gear. Upon disassembly we found the broken clip, wedged between the govenor and the case. It had stripped the govenor gear.
