Another hood hinge issue.

Does anyone know who rebuilds hood hinges for the 73-80? I see the name "Willie" all over the internet but the website is down and I guess he's no longer in business. I finally got my AMD hood and AMD front fenders to where I like the gaps when the hood is on and all bolts tight with the springs removed. But when springs are installed the hood gaps change and sit a little high in the rear, even when adjusted all the way down. You can push it down and it stays but is still a tad high on one side. I tried the original hinges, two brand new AMD hinges, same thing. I don't want the billet, expensive hinges with the gas cylinder. I'm thinking the AMD hinges are too loose as my originals. Any ideas? Thanks.

The hood hinge adjustment at the fenders kind of works backwards to how you might expect, try going up at the rear of the hinges instead of down.

Ran into that myself when I did the fenders on mine it seems a bit awkward at first untill you realize what's going on. It’s based on the angle of the hinge when the hood is closed.

Right, I've been playing with it for a good while. The engines out so I've been crawling through the grill opening and tightening/untightening.

I did mine from outside with the hood open lossend it enough I had to force it to rock down in the front and up in the back and crank it down then swap to the other side. Mine wanted to be fully angled that way on both sides to line up.

Headed out to adjust the hinges on the 77 the “wrong way” now…

Be sure to grease them! Nothing about initial fitting, I know….

In addition to everything said already…

Sometimes additional adjustment can be had by slotting the holes a little larger, you’re not strictly limited by the factory holes.

Aftermarket sheetmetal isn't perfect, do what you need to do.

Agreed with above, those hinges need the snot greased out of them and it's not uncommon at all, even with original hinges, to need to slot them for additional adjustment. But even then, half the time when I shut the hood on our '76 that still has the original hood/hinges, I still have to work the back down if we haven't had the hood open and shut in a while.
