New guy here, I've searched but haven't found the answer to my predicament.
Im in the process of swapping a LQ9 into my 84 using a Painless LS swap harness and ECU.
I believe 84 was the first year for the electronic control module
E that's mount next to the accelerator.
Question has anyone utilized this module with their swap? Any help would be appreciated!
I've demoed most of the ESC stuff but have kept all the harnesses. The brake switch was the type that had the vacuum line connected to it , if that makes a difference.
Thanks again!

Cruise control is a completely separate harness on these trucks. The cruise module gets its speed signal from the VSS on the bs l of the speedo head. The cruise servo still needs a vacuum source from the vaccum tank, the brake switch and vacuum release are still needed.

Cruise servos are basically interchangeable. If you can’t easily adapt the factory servo to your engine, look for a servo from a mid 90s Buick Lesabre, Park avenue, etc. the servos use a cable instead of a solid link. Mount the servo wherever you can, run the cable to the throttle body. Lengthen the wires and hoses as needed.

I appreciate it Matt. I will look at sourcing one of those servos.
Ive swapped out the old 700R for a 4L65, do you know of tapping of the VSS there will affect the input to the ECU?
Thanks again!

I have no clue if the VSS from a 4l65 uses the same “language” as the VSS from the speedo head. Which brings up my next question: what are you using for a speedometer? A 4l65E has no speedo cable provision.

If it turns out the signals aren’t compatible, pitch the factory cruise setup and run a aftermarket Rostra setup. That will solve your servo issue, the Rostra module will work with many different signal types, doesn’t require vacuum, and with a little wiring you can use the factory turn signal switch lever to control it.

I’m a fanatic for keeping the factory engineering in place, but in this case it would be far easier to switch than to fight!

1990&1991 factory speedos are electronic so maybe one of those would work for the swap?

Is this a drive by wire or drive by cable setup? I wouldn't use any of the stock cruise control stuff with an LS swap. If it is drive by cable, use a factory cruise module from a 2000-2002 Tahoe/Suburban/Sierra. You would just need to feed the cruise button signals, brake signal, and vss to the cruise module. If it is Drive by wire, you don't need anything else. The drive by wire setup uses the throttle body itself, you just need to feed it the on/resume/set controls from the Cruise control stalk. It gets VSS from the transmission output speed sensor.

Here is how I am looking into doing my next set up. It’s s10 but the full size stuff is almost, if not same.
