How does someone find out what Kickdown/Detent cable is needed?
Is it engine and trans combo? Is it year of truck? just overall lenght?

The cheap aftermarket replacement cables are junk. Get a decent universal one.

If you are using let's say a 1979 c10 350,and using the carburetor and brackets for a 1979 engine. I'd buy one for a 1979 c10 Chevrolet with a th350 transmission. If it's a hodge podge of different pieces, then a universal may be the best option. But a factory cable has to match your intake, your carb, your brackets sbc/BBC and your model transmission.
