@JBswth so this is a granny 4spd (sm465), correct? If so, 1st gear is not synchronized like 2nd through 4th so by design it will not just fall in to gear.
No, it is a 3 speed, but the first-gear synchro often doesn't work - over 300,000 miles - so I always come to a complete stop before shifting into first, or, double-clutch.

This sounds like a pilot bushing or alignment issue to me.



I would ASSume that he means 1st road gear, rather than low gear.
I always installed the pilot bushing with the beveled side facing the trans. Should I have installed it the other way - the beveled side facing forward?
