We ran into a couple snags as we tried to dismantle our (what we assume is a 74) bowtie. We ended up snapping the plastic bowtie in half removing it from the chrome casing. So currently glueing it back together.

We have removed the blotchy, weathered translucent gold colored and metalic paint, so the plastic emblem piece is now clear. And we are looking for guidance on how to paint it to look original?

Would love some thoughts or insights on how to get the original color with the metalic quality as well. And also thoughts on reproducing the plastic piece so that it doesn't have the crack (sorry no pic of plastic piece currently)
and any other options, like just paint it black, or a specific metalic gold that you know looks good?

We wanted to avoid purchasing a new emblem, and please spare me the comments about how we should have just left it alone - We agree.

Mine was in the same condition. The back side of the plastic insert is smooth so I just flipped it over after prying it out, fixed the chipped/cracked spots with JB weld and painted it black.

How about gluing in a piece of trimmed brass sheeting?

A sturdy gauge example:

Black is an option. But since the truck is moss gold, I kinda wanted to try to get the original translucent "gold ish" color back. But I suppose Black can always be the backup if we don't like what we get. And thanks for the idea about the brass sheeting as well. I'll keep thinking.

Try looking for a piece of translucent gold or yellow plexiglass.
