NV4500 Swap....Turn key, no crank.

Howdy gents (and gal). I once again find my self coming to you in dire need of your unrivaled wisdom and knowledge. My Frankensteins Monster of an 83' K10 Suburban has been dead for over 2 years now. But I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I finally have a 454 / NV4500 / NP208 bolted in my truck just in time for no corn fuel to hit $4. I even managed to find the proper hydro pedal assembly. Got the column back in, Charged up the batteries, turned the key so excited to have my "ITS ALIVE" moment......and nothing. Fuel pump comes on, power to all the lights, locks, windows, dash. But nothing to the starter.

Im hopeful there is just some simple safety switch that I overlooked. The wiring in this truck (and EVERYTHING else) was heavily molested before I became the proud new owner. But I never really had issues starting the truck. And I drove the truck into to the shop when we started on the swap.

ooh.....what does this plug into? It's running through the column. Is this my problem?

That’s from the turn signal stalk, for cruise control.

Thank you. This truck does not have any cruise components. Fairly certain this tilt wheel is out of a newer truck

So you went from auto to manual correct? Is it still an auto column in the truck?

Correct. It is still the auto column.

@DoubleDingo. This is where we are today.

I don't remember if 83 had a neutral safety switch. I'd be investigating that.

Hoping it's simple. Need to check all of the culprits, neutral safety if it has it, fusible link, connections, grounding, etc.

So I have a neutral safety switch. It is located at the bottom of the column. It is plugged in. I have not found a wire that would have went to the transmission....as a safety or reverse light. Was all of that controlled through the column?

Yes the neutral safety switch doubles as the reverse lights switch for the auto trucks.

Try tilting the column all the way up, try the key, then all the way down and try it, also try with the gear selector pushing up on and through its range of motion.

Did this. No luck. Traced all the wires to the starter....found the problem. My buddy had installed the starter for me. Along with a bunch of other bits. Turns out not all of the starter solenoids are the same. The "S" terminal on this starter is on the opposite side of the one that came out. Swapped them and it cranked.

Poured some fuel down her throat and it fired and rand for a few seconds. But the old Mr Gasket fuel pump has failed. Thankfully I keep 3 spares lol.

I may be 20min away from getting to grab 5th in an 83' Suburban.

Well....replaced the old fuel pump.....not pulling fuel. I did not remember draining tank. Possible that someone drained for me while it sat -_-

91 no corn is $4.20 a gal here rural Missouri. Smh.

Just got it to fire on its own. But something is wrong with the clutch. Wont fully engage. Sounds like something is hitting the housing as it spins. Makes me wanna puke.
