76 c30 no crank no start

Hey, I need help with my truck here. I am restoring it and bought new dash and engine harnesses for my 76 c30. Before I tore the truck apart, it ran, drove, and did truck things perfectly fine. In addition the harness already in the truck were butchered. After I installed the new harnesses and plugged everything up except the brake light switch and 2 unknown plugs that I can't find information on, no crank no start. I ran around all day trying to diagnose, I replaced the ignition switch, starter, and tested if I was getting power where I should. I used a test light on the IGN terminal on the fuse block and while holding the key to the crank position I got nothing and did the same thing with the purple wire to starter and still nothing. All fuses good from what I could see and the headlights and wipers worked.

Could it be the wires you left unplugged are starter safety switch wires either clutch safety switch or neutral safety switch?

What wiring harness did you install?

After arguing with them for 2 days Friday and Monday they finally gave me an answer. I ordered the harness over the phone and asked them to take out the neutral safety switch part of it because it is a manual truck. This was supposed to happen but whoever was packing the order put in a standard harness. After all that fuss I was told to make a jumper wire for the purple wire with a white stripe. Sure enough it started. I thought it was something that I had done or just messed up all together. The main reason I couldn't understand what the issue was, is because I've never owned an automatic c10 and was thrown off when I saw 2 connectors I didn't recognize

Why didn't you order a harness for a manual transmission vehicle? Just taking a section you don't want isn't a feasible deal on a premade harness it's not just leave a section out or it won't work, other wiring would need to be done to bypass that section. Now you are probably faced with wiring backup lights they probably would have been part of the harness for a manual transmission.And bypassing a factory and probably government mandated safety device is probably something a major manufacturer isn't going to do,for liability reasons. A truck gets someone hurt because the starter engages when it shouldn't have?Probably isn't a lawsuit they want to deal with. Operator error is going to be blamed on unsafe product.

Why didn't you order a harness for a manual transmission vehicle? Just taking a section you don't want isn't a feasible deal on a premade harness it's not just leave a section out or it won't work, other wiring would need to be done to bypass that section. When you are ordering some of the harnesses from American Autowire you can request additional items such as HEI for the 454 or the harness changed to accommodate power wires for a coil if you wanted to run points etc. I had mentioned in the order that it was a manual and to remove the automatics neutral safety part. They replied and said that they can do that. The wrong harness was put in the box, but still works.

The one I got for mine was auto only and hade a note about jumping the plug for a manual, but I did it anyways as my column is for floor shift so has no mount for a switch anyways.

Wow I don't know what to say other than I am amazed that they sell a totally generic harness for that kind of money,with no option as to years and manual transmissions.

Only ones I ran across that were prewired for a C10 was a stock replacement glass fuse style and a modern blade fuse (ATO) with extra circuits for fans pumps etc. you had to wire your own extra accessories; both were wired for an auto. only options were gauges, warning lights, or diesel.
