The chrome lock strip around my windshield and rear windows has degraded and turned gray. Is it possible to replace them with new 'chrome' ones without replacing the rubber seals? Has anyone done this?
If it's necessary to replace the entire seals along with the strips, who makes the best ones?

Short answer, yes. Longer answer, if the gasket is old and hardened it may be considerably more difficult. however I don’t think it could be more difficult than actually reinstalling the windshield. That’s a bitch!
And don’t even attempt without a lock strip install tool. And smooth the edge on the tool that gouges the chrome on the strip when you slip a little. You’ll know which edge the first time you ding the new chrome colored plastic.

They sell these kits at LMC. I bought the chrome strip since that was what my truck had originally, and a new weather seal when I had windshield replaced. I brought both of them to a windshield guy to do the install. The chrome started to crack and fall apart during the installation and I had to throw it away and use a plain black locking strip. LMC makes you pay for return shipping so it wasn't even worth the hassle of sending it back. Probably better to not use LMC's strip if you insist on a chrome one, or just start of with a black one.

If you got one that crusty, I’d think pics would have sufficed for a refund. Or do you mean the chrome got gouged/wrinkled? Because the latter is not hard to do. Install needs to be slow and careful or damage to the chrome finish is pretty easy to have happen.

I have had hit or miss luck with LMC. I bought fuel tank insulation for the straps on fuel tanks. What a joke. They sent roofing felt. I ended up buying 1/16" thick x 2" rubber and tossed the roofing felt scraps.

You can replace the chrome insert with the "Scottsdale" black insert too. This way, in 10 years, you do not have to worry about that new aftermarket chrome insert breaking down again.
