NP241c Passenger Side Drop.....Unicorn?

I have recently purchased an NP205 for the 4L60e I am installing on my 1978 Chevy Scottsdale. I was chatted up, in depth, by a transmission guy telling me how good the 241 is and why I should get one. Well, I have been looking now...for a few months but cannot locate on that is not $3800.00 on ebay. SO here is my ask: does anyone here on this team know of one that is available...somewhere? I've looked all the way into Cali and New Mexico and cannot locate a darn thing. I haven't got rid of the 205 and wont till I can find a 241, but it just doesn't look feasible. Help a guy out?

I'm guessing you want the 241 for the 40 tooth VSS, call around to junk yards looking for an 88-91 blazer or suburban.

FYI an NP-208 can be retrofitted for a 40 tooth reluctor wheel & VSS if needed

Yes and No Calsgt. The gentleman I spoke to told me the 208 was a bit weaker in its design than the 241. I'm going with a stroked 383 which will put out some power. I am trying to do my best to build this guy strong while its all in pieces. The np205 will work, no doubt, but doesn't have the gearing the 241 does. Now, I am not against learning new information about anything here...so feel free to chime in.....anyone at all.

I would forget the 241c idea, here's why:


With doublers, the 205 can be as low as 4:1 for low range , 241c has no doublers.
Its got 4hi, 4lo, neutral, 2hi, 2lo

The np241 is like, 4lo, 4hi, and 2hi.

205 is stronger than the 241, which is similar to the 208 in the fact they stretch chains and are cast aluminum casing.

You can run a Dakota digital adapter for easy VSS if youre needing it...

People are proud of their 241c's because theyre the goto LS swap t case for your squarebody

And is that price prohibitive or is it something a guy can do on a weekend? I'm not the all knowing on things like that so any advice would be appreciated.

Well if you want tough just run the 205, I'm not sure what you are running for tire size or what kind of driving you plan to do but most people wont notice the difference between the 1.9:1 of the 205 & the 2.78:1 of the 241

ORD has 205 tail housing kits for the VSS, and advance has ones that go on the transmission, problem with getting the signal from the trans output is the TCM wont get an accurate speed reading when in low range and will make it shift like a bastard (or so I've heard on the internet)

Like Vince said, if its not low enough you could always stack a 203 on it for a doubler. ORD sells them for about 1K

241 & 208 are the same case essentially. I'd rather put 3:1 gearsets in a 205 and have a much stronger unit but if you need the speed sensor then I see your issue.

No sensor needed. I want a strong build. I would rather go 205 but the gearing isnt quite there for what I want. I am researching the doubler Vbb was talking about, but that requires more mods and dollars. So far I am leaning that way, but I am going with a 4L60e and need to research the details of hooking up to that guy.

The Lomax is a cool option and I want one BUT at the current price ($3k+) it's more expensive than an Off Road Design Magnum which may be stronger.

The gear set may not be available now. I just looked and there's an issue on the site. It's probably a "supply chain" issue. That's all I'll say about that. I'd much rather have an NP205 as opposed to an NP208 or NP241; the drawback for the NP205 is the 2:1 low range. The 3:1 is better for moving these heavy Squares around for certain.

Oh yeah, I agree the 205 is great. I would love to have a Lomax in my Doubler, the limitation of 2:1 (not enough) and 4:1 (at times too much) only can be frustrating. I’m in the Southeast so more reduction with wheel speed (~3:1) would be awesome.

Edit: I think the Lomax pricing will kill its market.

The Lowmax kit is $2500 dollars. AND you cannot use your case, it has to be a special Lomax case. I cant spend that much on a TC at this time.
