For *****-n-giggles, I started pricing out things for the front end of my truck. I had planned on getting drop spindles for the front next year, and figured that would be an opportune time to replace:

Control-Arm Bushings
Sway-Bar Bushings
Inner/Outer Tie Rods
Lower/Upper Ball Joints

(Not everything listed needs to be replaced, but I just like to do everything at once.......)

Just with what is listed above (plus spindles) is close to $600...Then add the cost of smaller things like inner/outer bearings etc...alignment... and I'm looking at $700 or so dollars.......Of course, most of this was from a local store, and I'm sure I could get things cheaper on-line.... but this is depressing........

Anybody want to buy a SB?.........

That's what will definitely happen, but it's just seeing the total cost that really makes you think...."Is this all worth it..?".................A few years ago was no problem but ever since I had to take a $5hr paycut, it has made me more aware of what I spend money on..............

go to rockauto.com buddy. We just bought 4 tie rods, 3 ball joints and an idler arm shipped for ^85 and could get the pitman for another 10 bucks added to the above total, tie rod sleeves were like 4 something maybe 5, we bought them local though. I also priced out control arm bushings and they weren't too bad. I'd check it out might be alot better and they have alot of options to chose from, like econmy to top of the line stuff.

I would think the drop spindles would be the most expensive all I've seen have been like $200 or so. I seen them on summit for around that and lowest I can think of, and then having the bushings pressed out and in if you can't do it at home aint cheap either.

Now if you read that right you see I said 3 ball joints, why? The other was in the new upper control arm we had to buy for the driver's side due to rust.

Not by much! The kits I was looking at were around $800 for a 4-6" lift. STOCK, it's going to cost me $700.

True but if you want a real offroad brute and not a mall crawler you'll want upgraded axles, gears, tires that cost more than $300 a piece, chromoly axle shafts, heavier-duty u-joints, crossover steering, and God knows what else. A crossover steering kit is $400 alone. Not to mention the goodies you might need like a winch, hi-lift, toolbox with a little bit of everything, and 2 of everything that might break, 10 or more miles from civilization where there is no cell phone service.

I MAY have a lower cost alternative to the Borgeson steering shafts using a shaft from another vehicle. It works on later model SBs. Not sure when the changeover was, I think '77.

we talking lifts here for 2wd or 4? I bought a rough country 4 inch kit with shocks brand new shipped for $300.

The lift I referenced was for a 4WD and it included all of the "optional" accessories for the lift as well.

IMO, the money is well worth it because of the joy it gives to work on the truck and complete the project in the pursuit of modding the way YOU want it!
