Anyone know what PN is the canister for an 85 K20? Mine was pretty shot - cant find it anyways and know I needed a new one. I've seen some that would work - had the same ports on it - but have heard the diameters can be different and wont fit in the bracket then.

I also know GM discontinued about all of them but they do surface from time to time.

Also....since I'm going from an 85 carb setup to EFI, would the canister I need change?

Thanks.

ACDelco Vapor Canister 215-151

It's out of stock everywhere, maybe you find a used one on ebay.

I don't think your vapor canister has to change for the efi swap.

So they make universal canisters with the ports needed? I don’t know how they can get away with not being able to get emissions parts you’d swear a government something would mandate they be able to be serviced for a long time

Some canisters are more complicated than others, or have external vacuum switches in the lines. My ‘75 has a simple setup with only two hoses (in/out) on the canister, and the control for purge is a special port on the carburetor. I think it’s a 215-153 part number. Some newer ones have a vacuum port on the canister that controls the purge function.

My 74 also has the 215-153. The newer ones have the vacuum ports.

I found a emission vacuum diagram of a 85 305 (They are pretty much the same for all engine sizes) ....omg
I'm really happy that I removed all that stuff from my cars.

I noticed that the canister for 87's (FI) is only 2 ports instead of 5. One on my original (can barely read it) is labeled 'carb / bowl'. Thats why I wondered if I couldn't get away with a later one with less ports if I'm going EFI. Those can still be found new. Need to find the vac routing label for an 87 now.

I bought one for my 85 C10 at Rock Auto, direct replacement. Couldn't imagine why yours would be different?

They're all out of stock....except the 87+ style. I just ordered one of them - going EFI anyways so should be fine.

I swiped one that had the same connections as the two that are in my '79 from the junkyard.
It came off of a '94 Suburban and cost me $21.
It will replace the stock pair of them to clean up the engine bay.

@Doppleganger,

I know you want a factory cannister, but there are other options. I found this one at a wrecking yard. It's off a Mazda RX7. I don't know what year, but no matter it's just that it doesn't have to be a Chevy one. But I know many on this forum don't do customizing at all, which is fine a lot of my truck is factory but I enjoy mixing it up. I think it looks neater and catches people's eye. But I was involved in a lot of car shows some years ago and I think that way.

It came with it's own bracket and I located it and screwed it in place.

You know it's weird how this site turns pics sometimes. But crank your head around and the cannister hose goes to the stock return line to the gas tank. My Holley doesn't have a vacuum port for the cannister on the front of the carb., so you can see the white cap on the port on the cannister that would be going to the carb.

I got a new canister on Rock - for an 87-95 FI. Was <half what the feebay/Amazon junkies wanted.
Got a really clean bracket at the PnP yesterday for.....$1. :hat:

On the 89 I took the bracket from, they had a formed hard line going from one canister port to the front of the TBI (which they gave me for nada) - then the other port went to the tank. Shouldn't be too hard to duplicate.

Thanks anyways fellas!

Also...fwiw, they had 2 squares there that wasn't on their inventory lists. One is a 76 K20 - had a really nice grill. The other was an unknown year (81-) that had what looked like a new aftermarket grill on it with the single headlamps. Everything else on either truck was pretty rough. I might go back and get the glovebox. Mine's one of those 'cut down' versions for a dealer installed AC. Dont think I need the clearance for the new setup.
