By the time you spent all the money and time to do an A833 swap, you probably could have done a 4L80-E Swap. I too would love to do an A833 swap and had the chance to do it too. To bad fundage and the whole ******** of selling my house to avoid foreclosure, it was all sold for a band-aid just to buy me a couple more months in hopes to hang on to the house which didn't happen anyway.
Edit: When it comes to spending time and money... i really would rather spend it on a manual. I honestly hate autos. So its really between sm465, a833, and nv3500. Otherwise ill get a rebuilt 700r4 i found for 350 and call it good for now.

Wouldnt i need electronic controls for the 4l80e?

What a shame sorry about the house, i was wondering if you had done that swap or not

No, I wish I did. Sold all the stuff for good money and still lost the house anyway. Suct !!! I'm there with you on the manual being preference. Yes, you'd need a controller for the 4L80-E unless you did a full manual valve body which some people do. Just like driving a manual but without the clutch. Whatever gear you put it in, that's what gear it's in until you shift it. NO auto features at all. It's just like it says, FULL MANUAL valve body.

Hey, I think I just got the mega plan for you. So the biggest hurdle for you is going to be finding the A833 transmission and shifter. So here's what you. Go for the SM465 Swap now. Just make sure it's the later SM465 with the 32 spline output, not the 10 spline. This will mean the 32 spline NP208 or NP241 also. Do your clutch pedals and all. Drive the SM465 but keep your eyes open the A833 4x4 set up with the cast iron case that has the integrated Tcase adapter just like the later SM465 does. If you do that, when you find the A833, it's a direct bolt in. Same eveything, crossmember, driveshafts and all. Everything is all the same length.

BTW, you year model truck, if you do that SM465 swap with the later SM465, your current driveshafts and crossmember should also work. All you have to do is change the flywheel, add the clutch and bellhousing, just be sure to get the later aluminum bellhousing that will have the 2 separate bolt patterns, one pattern is for the SM465, the other if for the A833. Then add the clutch pedals, install the transmission and bolt on the 32 spline Tcase. From there, bolting in the crossemember and driveshafts is exactly what you have now.

Do the later sm465s, A833s and nv3500 all use 32 spline with the same round bolt pattern my stock 700r4/np208 uses?

YES, all are the round pattern. All also have the adapter built into the tailhousing of the transmission. I know the SM465 and A833 are 32 spline output too. I'm not positive if the nV3500 is 32 spline without looking it up, but I believe it is.

Awesome. Sounds like i may go with the sm465. If i decided to do the nv3500 at a later date, do the flywheel and clutch setup work like in the A833 and sm465 also? I read the A833 calls for a larger clutch but everything is the same style and would bolt up.

Lol, my plan is the opposite. Install the A833 and see how long it lasts behind a big block. If I kill it, then a 465 will go in but along with a Ranger overdrive.

Correct, all of the factory stock np208 combos share the same overall length.

Instead of breaking that rare transmission want to sell it to me? [emoji6]

Lol, I really don't think I'll break it. The 465 is just my backup plan. I really want to use the 833.

I don't think it'll break either. Mopar used that same transmission in the later 60's and early 70's behind their 426 Hemi and 440 cars, and that was back when big blocks and even small blocks for that matter had real torque and made real horsepower. There is one factor of weakness that I've heard about and it does seem to be a reasonable theory. To make the OD in this transmission where the old Mopars were a 1 to 1 and no OD, the OD gear is small in size so it's not as strong as the rest and you can break the OD gear or the OD gear break the cluster or counter gear. That would be fine with me since when hot rodding, I'm going to be hard on 1st and 2nd in most cases. By the time I need OD, I'm just cruising and no need to pound on OD.

It's a shitload of work to convert from an automatic to a 4500. I've been putting my conversion for my 85 k20 together for almost a year. Ironically, the th400 started making nasty noises yesterday. If I weren't 95% into getting everything together, I'd just put a 4l80 in it. Hit me with any questions you have. I have acquired and rebuilt the trans, clutch, pedal assembly, hydraulic lines, 205 t-case, adapter, bellhousing, shift linkage, x-member, driveshaft and speedo drive. You will need to address your flywheel, bellhousing, exhaust and driveshafts. If you've got a long bed you will need a very expensive aluminum rear shaft or a two piece shaft cause it comes out to 64 inches.

Isnt there a nv3500 in the s10s? 32 spline seems overkill for an S series.

I don't expect high stress while in OD, due to 4.56's and tires in the 33-35" range.
