Had breakfast with my father-in law this morning and he mentioned he wanted to do a tune up on his truck (95 F350) but didn't feel like going to town (he's 88) so I told him I was headed into Wallyworld and would go by the auto parts and pick up what he wanted. He made out a list and off I went. This afternoon when I returned, I went out into the shop and found an old Chevrolet Grill emblem and took it with me, went to his place and he was outside tinkering with his truck. I walked up with the grill badge and told him I had explained to the clerk at the auto parts store that he was doing a full tune up on his FORD and the clerk had handed me this and said that was all he would need to improve performance! True story. The look on his face was priceless! LOL Now I'm wondering how he's going to pay me back for that one?

The Galaxy is not a bad looking rig.
I kinda like the 1972 F250 Highboy and the 1966 Dodge W200 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks.
Nowhere near the inexpensive simplicity of the GM squares.

I kinda like the 1972 F250 Highboy and the 1966 Dodge W200 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks.
Nowhere near the inexpensive simplicity of the GM squares.
That’s a Fairlane. I had a 67 Galaxie when I was younger. They were a good looking car.

Both are good looking cars.

Shows how well I know my 60's Fords. A family friend had two slick looking mid 60's Ford wagons that caught fire on separate occasions... Probably 65 Galaxies but not completely sure. Boxy with stacked four headlamp setups like the 65 Tempest/GTO and nearly flat grilles. Describes the Fairlane and Galaxy... Had a seats that folded out of the floor of the cargo area... Remember when 5 year olds could ride in the back like that and nobody worried?
My 60's rigs were all GM (oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Chevy) and several Chrysler vehicles. Still have two of the Chryslers. A 66 Dodge W200 4x4 & 69 Dodge Polara 500.
My first Ford was a filthy 6 year old Cream over Dark Red with Red interior and Red vinyl roof 78 T-Bird 460ci land barge that I cleaned up to sell. It looked new and ran nice when it rolled out the driveway. It was totalled within days of me selling it to an adult.

I inherited my all original clean rust free Green over White 1973 Ranger XLT F250 Highboy from one of the cool older guys I knew that's moved on. It was not running when I picked it up on the trailer after Bill's funeral because of Carb troubles that he couldn't fix because of his deteriorating health. She was a good girl for Bill. Never let him down and he took good care of her. I have yet to pull off the cover and bring her out of the barn into the sunlight but Bill would prefer to see her driven by me at least in good weather.

My brother in law who has his own body shop and rebuilds wrecks on a regular basis told me he recently heard the new aluminum body Fords have a new high strength frame and most all the wrecks are requiring new frames or being totaled because they can’t be pulled effectively on a frame puller. He hasn’t tried to do one and won’t unless a customer brings one to him. All the rebuilds he buys are Chevy or GMC. He did about 4 last year.

I think the Gm issue was not strength but weakness of the frames that was the issue, so of course it could result in the same outcome. I remember seeing a few issues of overloading the early frames and them bending in the middle. I had an 88 for close to ten years and over 200k in mileage and it was a very good truck compared to anything available at the time . I mentioned the Ford situation because now we are talking about $50-60k trucks that could easily be totaled and leave buyers in a bad position early in their ownership unless they have gap insurance.
