Secondary metering rod size?

It's a permanent part of the plunger/piston.. It's non-serviceable, doesn't come in the kit.. The only way to remove/replace is to separate the rod hanger from the piston and that's an unequivocal NO-NO.. You don't ever want to "tinker" with the hanger in any way.. Back in my day (I've been away from auto repair for almost 25 years) the power piston was a serviceable part, available over the counter at a GM dealership..

So WTF? did the guy that rebuilt it before me put the wrong power piston in there? what would that one have come from? Like I said, I know some dink rebuilt it before me because there were two spacer/washer guys in that spot where there should have been one.

How much did that thing weigh anyway? Did you have to get a cherry picker to put it on there? Bigger springs for the front end? And cut a hole in the hood? That thing takes up a lot of real estate at the very least!:Boo:

How much did that thing weigh anyway? Did you have to get a cherry picker to put it on there? Bigger springs for the front end? And cut a hole in the hood? That thing takes up a lot of real estate at the very least!:Boo:
It’s just a 750DP nothing fancy. It’s just the main body is smoothed out and has removable air bleeds.

Good possibility.. but then anything's possible.. That carburetor's probably over 35 years old.. Good cores are rare so the rebuilder could have sourced anything just to turn a buck.. Back in the day, I never liked installing commercially rebuilt carburetors, I rebuilt the one on the car myself because the carb "fits" the engine at hand.. If I had to go with a commercially rebuilt unit, I completely disassembled it and compared it "microscopically" to the original... **** got changed back in those days.. I can only imagine what goes on today...

Just going from what I've gleaned from your description, I wouldn't trust that carburetor as far as I can throw my Black Angus bull by his horns.. I'd send it, along with the EGR valve, to Donkey **** and let him give it a proper burial.. I'd then address every single one of the mechanical issues of the engine -- low compression, camshaft trueness, valve guides, sloppy distributor, etc.. I'd then buy a new Holley 650 CFM vacuum secondary actuated, single fuel inlet, single accelerator pump, Holley, along with an adapter to fit it to the existing intake.. If these steps are properly executed, I'd almost guarantee your problems will be gone..

Heheh, too good, But I got you on the facts and points. Probably should just pull the engine...

Naaaa. they ain't that big.. Honky's running that on a BBC.. I ran that carb and it's bigger brother the 850 on my race prepped SBCs... I had an 800 cfm on a 8,000 rpm 301 SBC.. The added power more than makes up for the weak front springs.. :driver::boobs: :driver:

There is an anvil on back of the vise but it’s got Edelturd and slobberjet guts all over it. Lol
I see you work on Eddy carbs.. Sittin' over there by the wall is THE #1 TOOL of choice for making modifications to them.. One side is used for reducing float weight and the other end is for grinding notches in the throttle butterflys.. I don't see the hammer used for fixing the choke???

Na, he's using the tool in the far bottom left corner for that.

A little trivia about that carburetor.. You do know it's a copy of a 1950s design?? the Carter AFB was a failure and so is it.. They would flood and set the engine compartment on fire.. Had one choke setting for cold weather, one for hot.. and still a 3rd for rainy season.. The sumbitch demanded a screwdriver be put to it at least once a month.. Wouldn't hold a setting for ****...The WCFB was a far superior design...
