Don't remember what i was reading yesterday, but found an article where super chevy compared the 2.
I suppose after buying the carb/intake, etc it isn't cheaper than doing the custom tune... so nevermind

So what is the going price for a complete lsx/harness/pcm? The cheapest i have found in my area is about 750-1000 depending on mileage. plus transmission, so maybe 1200ish for everything?
What i just need a fuel pump/lines, anything else?

Anything under 150k for millage i would think is good. Was thinking 5.3 as bigger gets really expensive, and not sure that the power band of the 4.8 is low enough
So need:

Trans
Mounts
Fuel pump/lines
Tcase adapter
Vss output somehow (241 output or adapter)
Custom tune
I assume my radiator is adequate
I think that could be done for cheaper then rebuilding a sbc as i don't have laying around

well, that wasn't a true statement, it can't produce the same power as easily, is that better?

I think it would be easier, cooler and supposedly a carb will can produce better peak powers than fuel injection. Debatable though. But you do get huge improvements in power from the individual coils as well as LS head and valve port runner design.
If you run a carb you still need a firing control module. So you still have power tuning features associated with that. as well you would run larger jets on an LS then you would on a SB because of increased flow capabilities of the LS heads.
As well the LS stroke to bore ratios are an improvement over the Small Blocks

Which was kinda the point of this thread, but fuel injection has a little better driveability from a cold start.
I think if i do it i will be FI, maybe i will make a full price comparison and go from there

Ok so carb : wide band A/F meter, intake, carb, jets?, rods?, gaskets?, fittings and hoses to re route fuel lines, air filter, fuel management system?, run cooler? That's why the afm and vvt retards timing and manages fuel for... to maintain temp.
Efi. Tune after performance parts and go or but tuner and do it at your will economy and power mode
oh if you don't want to trim the wire harvest that's extra.

Most likely i would just do intake and exhaust because even a stock 5.3 has to be pushing double the hp/tqi compared to my tired 305.

To answer the first question... cheaper? Actually, yes, most likely. Easier, not really. Only the electrical part would be different than EFI. You still need something to fire the coils. But, that part is cheaper than an after market computer, if you are comparing apples to apples.
$750-$1000 complete? All the accessories and brackets? Required sensors and senders? Computer and complete harness? Guy that did this swap at work into a '76 Camaro said he would get a complete donor vehicle next time.
I wouldn't be surprised if you are into it for $3000 on the cheaper side. Can your current tank accept an in-tank pump? Don't even bother with an in-line pump. Your electric system needs to be in top working order too. Exhaust will need to be worked on. Computer will need a tune at the very minimum. Can't think of much else at the moment.
