Hey everyone,

I could use some help deciding on the right blue for my 1984 GMC Jimmy. It’s a two-tone setup, currently white with a light blue/greenish shade, but I’m planning to repaint it to white + a classic glossy blue.

The tricky part is choosing the right blue. I’m aiming for something:

• Glossy and vibrant
• Not baby blue
• Not too dark/navy
• Has that late 70s vibe without looking too flashy or too dull

Basically, I want it to feel classic and period-correct, but still pop a bit in the sun.
I’ll attach two photos: one of my car, and another sample color I’ve been going back and forth with the painter about. Please take a look and let me know what you think.
By the way, the painter claims that sample color is from a 1970 Porsche, but I’m not really sure about that.

If anyone has color codes, factory shades, or even photos of similar builds, I’d really appreciate it. I didn’t expect picking a blue to be this hard

So it looks to be original color, but you don’t want to do that?
Asking what color to paint YOUR car is like getting on here and asking what shirt to wear to work that day.
Really seems like a personal type decision.

Man, that original silvery blue looks great on there, I'd stick with that if it were me personally. Or GM's light blue metallic that I have on my truck as the main color. I feel like a softer/lighter blue would look better against the white than a bright/in your face blue

That would look nice but OP said not dark/navy, although it appears he is open to dark blue?

I think that going as close to original is the best ticket. My truck was a peeler and also had no luster, almost a navy ship grey. Without having to paint the bed and the jams I ended up with a Mercedes color, real close. The color has a fine metallic and since it is a stock color will not be hard to match, just in case. I had my El Camino painted a shade off the original color, again not painting the jams or the bed. But since it is a custom color it was very hard to match when i got a chip. Go to automotive paint supplier and find a stock color from a modern car that matches IMHO
