I’m deep into my project of installing a built 406 into my 73 C10, and I purchased a full serpentine system from CVF racing. Everything was going in nicely until I got to the crack pulley. So the hole in the pulley fits over the bolt in the harmonic balancer, but there is a “bump out” that is 1 3/4” wide that it does not fit over, preventing the pulley from sitting flush on the balancer (see photos) would the solution for this be to have the center of the pulley opened up by a machine shop? The kit was for a SBC, but the engine came with an aftermarket balancer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is my first build, and it’s been educational and enjoyable so far.

First thing I'd do is contact the supplier and get their recommendation. If they say open it up then I'd open it up. If they give another alternative follow it. If they say IDK tuff luck I'd either return it,because I don't like places that don't support thier customers. Last choice would be open up the crank pulley.

Thats a washer for the bolt looks like to me. Pull the bolt and washer. Install pulley. Put the washer and bolt back in.

^^^This^^^

That's not a "bump out", that's the washer for the crank bolt. It was probably just stuck to the paint when you removed the bolt.

Thank you all for pointing out that it was a washer. I didn’t really even thing of taking that bolt out. This is my first project and everything has been a learning experience. I figure this way I can know every square inch of the engine once it’s up and running.

Last CVF install I did was on a BBC with a stock harmonic balancer. The lower pulley had a stepped out backside to engage in the balancer to accurately center on the balancer which had a recess.
It looks to me as if your aftermarket balancer is stepped out. The pulley needs to engage in the balancer to be accurately centered. So for this balancer it needs a recessed backside. The three bolts may not center accurately enough to prevent wobble or eccentricity.
I’d also consider getting a longer center bolt if you have to remove the washer to install the pulley.

Yes I read every post and blew up the thumbnails. Just trying to share my experience in case it helps. No offense intended.

I was just wondering because it was already discovered that no special pulley was required for that balancer.

I am curious about your big block application though, as I've never been aware of any balancer that required a special crank pulley.
