Alternator bracket not lining up with bolt hole in head

Got the new brackets in and it doesn't line up. It has a threaded stud in the head instead of the bolt hole. But the aluminum one does. But it has a recessed part that I believe has the alternator too far forward and is the reason it keeps throwing belts.

So I think what I'm gonna do is put a couple of washers between the bracket and alternator to push it back some more. Also will have to shorten the aluminum spacer that screws to the head. Then it might line up correctly and stop throwing belts. Anyone have a better idea on how to get it to line up right?

I dont understand why the hole in the head doesn't line up with stock bracket i bought. That's weird. Any idea why that is?

Is it an original GM bracket or aftermarket reproduction?

I'd get rid of that hokey stud/pedestal arrangement and go with the original type of long bolt and spacer.

That's what I was going to do but it doesn't line up. I believe the one I got from summit was the original brackets. It came with the long bolt and spacer. As you can see on the picture the black bracket doesn't line up with the threaded stud. But the aluminum one does. That's why I was asking why it's like that? If I removed the study the long bolt won't line up.

If I removed the study the linguistics bolt won't line up.

By the time you get a 6 inch bolt lined up there should be plenty of wiggle room for that black bracket to fit fine. Leave all the bolts a little loose.

If there isn't enough wiggle room drill 1 of the bolt holes at the waterpump end,the next size larger so you can pivot it,see what that gets you. A tiny bit of movement on the inside end,is a lot of movement 6 inches out.

I had actually thought of doing just that. Thanks for the idea. I'm gonna get busy on it tomorrow and see what I can do. Also I think that aluminum bracket was keeping the alternator from moving down farther because it would hit at the recess on the bracket. That's the reason the right belt wasn't fitting and seemed too small. So I had to get different ones until I found one that fits. Thanks again Rick.

Short pumps were on the earlier trucks I believe. Like maybe only before 75.

Cars to 68 trucks through 72 corvettes were an exception. But the pumps swap so people accidentally put the wrong pump on,engines get swapped where someone before had used a short pump for clearance or to run early brackets and early heads etc. So if anyone ever is in doubt they should measure,not rely on year.

Thanks but that's the one I ordered but it wasn't the right one. I was surprised that it wasn't the one I needed. Top bracket was not even close.

Might need the mid mount one then that just bolts to the pump and head I posted in the other thread. It's not factory style. I have used this one so should work unless something really weird is going on.

Something funny is going on. That is what I have used more than any other,and never any issues. Something else's is going on. Bolting to the wrong locations? Wrong alternator and or pully? Wrong waterpump pulley? Get us lots of good pics of why the original GM type brackets aren't working.

All his other accessories line up fine it's just on the alt side which is weird. I've used both the ones I linked plus the high mount turn buckle style and never an issue so maybe more pics in and around the area of the engine where it mounts too may be needed.

I looked up the alt as the part number was visible in the one pic on the other thread, because I was thinking it might be the issue, but it shows as correct.

Also were all the spacers used in the correct locations? Both the smaller ones are used for the top bracket one goes on the intake, and one goes on the water pump.
