Hey all,
New to the forum here... I'm a old Dodge guy with a 1966 Charger in my garage but I am helping a young ex-marine get a 1986 Frankenstein of a truck on the road. I know a bit about Dodge, but I am new to GM. He got stuck between a new-to-him truck deal and the death of the guy who was building it for him, so I stepped up to help. The truck came to me with the engine pulled and sitting in the bed of the truck. However, the engine came out of a 1998 Suburban so none of the accessories (alternator, A/C, temp, oil and such) match the wiring much. Plus, the guy who found the truck for my friend simply cut a lot of the wiring out.
So, I am trying to piece this beast back together to bring it to life and it has been a struggle. For example, the block has been rebuilt now, and we put in a new Edelbrock and are going with a normally aspirated carb. But the exhaust manifolds are from a Suburban with automatic, so the driver side outlet is too close to the clutch cylinder. Plus, the exhaust in the 86 K10 was a farmer hack job and the flange bolts are 3-bolt but are different pattern size, so I still have to figure that out. Looking at headers so that might solve the whole exhaust issue.
Regarding the wiring, I have the distributor, oil pressure and sending units figured out. I am not familiar with the 4-wire alternator, and I don't have the pigtail for it so anyone know what I should be buying to get the alternator up? The A/C we are going to leave idle. The cab in this 86 K10 did not have A/C so that will have to come later.
I also need to solve the starter wiring so if anyone can lead me to what wires drop to the starter, that would likewise be very helpful.
