So uh...I may or may not have ordered the smaller Corsa to swap in...as a bday present for myself I've determined this one is not loud enough for my taste lol

Acksholly, my buddy just bought the big universal Corsa for his 5.3 swapped OBS 'burb and it's much louder than what I currently have, even though they look identical. He offered to trade me but of course my little guy had already shown up lol. Back in the day, Corsa had "Sport" and "DB" options for these trucks. Now they only list "Sport". My buddy has the DB on his '04 Crewcab and it's quite a bit louder than my truck, so that must be what the universal muffler is.

My system must be the original Sport since it came off an SUV and condition wise, looks like it'd been on there since it was close to new. Mine sounds good, but not as loud as I feel a Corsa should be. The tone and volume is why I like Corsas so much, so we're going louder lol. As cheap as I'm in this whole system for, I could probably sell the current big muffler and get my money back

The GF was on her bday cruise this weekend so I planned to go up to the shop Saturday and swap in the baby Corsa. Friday night I laid under the truck with the muffler and some of the pipe I'd ordered to get a game plan. Had some liquid motivation as well

There's just the slightest offset vs the straight/straight of the big muffler. I figured the two 45s and maybe a straight would do it

Got to the shop and racked the truck first thing Sat morning

Cut both 45s shorter and realized I was gonna need a short straight section

Ended up needing right at 5.5" of straight, so I used the slip joint on the muffler and then the slip joint of the rear 45 onto the straight. Figured that'd make welding easier. Decided I'd use a clamp at the front of the muffler as well, so it's just the S pipe that'll be welded

Clamped it up, checked my tips and tacked it all

Not the prettiest, I struggled with the welder settings and it globbed up/spattered alot, so I ground everything down a bit when I was done with a flapdisc to check for pinholes/places I missed. Only ended up with a couple I had to go back and weld up.

Had similar struggles with the hangar, not sure what it was made of but it kept fighting me with splatter too. Again, not pretty but it's solid. I just bent the hangar cold in a vice, I should've fired up the gas axe and tried to curve it but I was already 2+hrs later than I'd planned and was supposed to be at a buddy's house so I said F it

I'm overall very happy with the sound. Much better growl and volume, though it's on the edge of being too loud. I love it right now but might swap in a mini-bullet resonator or something. There's no drone bcuz Corsa but the volume does come into the cab a bit more than expected. We'll see. We'll see what the GF says on our trip to my parent's this weekend lol

A buddy of mine had an epiphone and realized the big Corsa was probably the "Touring" and that's why it was barely louder than stock inside. I literally couldn't hear it 99% of the time, that's the reason for the change, even though from the outside it sounded good

I was busy this weekend with exhaust, too, but on my oldest’s 92 S10 Blazer and on my back of my garage floor without a lift I ended up turning out pretty decent but took a full day and a half! I had the same issue as you when it came to the hanger. Not sure what it is made out of but it spattered awful on me


Anyway, good job and hope you enjoy the sound better

With Mig, clean, clean, clean,

Before cutting or grinding on those pieces, wipe with acetone or lacquer thinner, until clean, then cut, clean again. Especially on those bends as they almost always will have residue from the ‘butter’ that is used from the bending process.

Clean and good ground too. Clean and quality wire too. I’ve bought some cheap wire and it just did not weld quite right, didn’t feel right, etc. Same goes for rusty wire.

That is why I love Tig welding so much, faster for me as I know about how many amps I want and don’t have to fiddle with anything. If it looks bad just reflow over the joint and it’ll be fixed.

Figuring out how to cut, getting bends lined up, etc takes forever! I can only imagine how long it would take me to do a full exhaust lol

I gave them a quick cleaning with brake clean, but didn't think about the "butter". I'll be sure to clean more next time. I used our welder at work that one of our guys here builds stuff with all the time. No idea what wire is in it, I just adjust the amps/wire speed to what I need. One of these days I'm gonna sign up for some welding classes, I'd like to actually learn/know things rather than just bumbling through. Would love to learn to Tig eventually too

I've been going back on forth on doing the Denali console swap for a while now and had one sorta fall in my lap yesterday when I was at another yard looking for stuff for work again lol. They priced it cheap enough and threw in another dash bezel, so I brought it home

These things are always nasty as hell, there's never a Denali or Escalade that comes in the yard with a decently clean interior. Never.

But what sold me on this one is that all the doors are there, intact and still functioning perfectly. As a bonus, all the sticky, rubbery silverish paint has already been stripped off
