My truck is broke. Who would've guessed. Few weeks ago had quite the fun drive, the altenator turn on wire kame dissconeected. Along with the turn on for my fans. So I had no fans for part of my drive and no altenator for almost the whole thing.

Got it back to my shop and it went kaput when I was trying to pull it in, tried to start it back up as one does and it diesiled really really bad and for the 2 seconds it ran my gauge said 4psi oil. (Dakota digital warning thing)
Pushed it into the shop left it for about a week. Came back rewired the altenator and fans they work, tried to start the truck. Did nofthing but crank and crank(very healthy crank). I've got fuel. I can see it squrting in, and smell it.

My local next door car professional said it's the ignition coil. Anyone else have any opinions, it's hei 1979 350 sbc.
Sorry for lack of info, it's all I know. I need it fixed tmr(wed). Because im not going to have my beautiful reliable daily thursday.

Pull a plug wire left front, grab an old spark plug, open the gap up to 1/8" or better. Clamp it in a negative jumper cable clamp the jumper cable to ground, set the plug where you can see it from the drivers door or driver's seat.Crank and look at the plug. Do you have a healthy spark. Post yes or no.

If this truck still has the "big cap" HEI distributor, those are noted for burning up the coil and the module or pickup coil, if the rotor burns through. It can still run if this happens... just maybe not real well.
Here are a couple of pictures of my neighbor Paul's 84 Caprice, when this happened....yes the car was still running before he changed the cap and rotor. He thought he should maybe look at it, since we had been working on my truck, and changing some of the same parts. The neoprene gasket/washer that's supposed to be under the coil....just gone.

Mine is. I had to replace the distributor cap twice, cracked it when pulling the cab off with a skid steer and cracked the new one again puting the cab on.

But never replaced the coil or everything. I have one on standby just incase. Crummy part is the truck dosnt fire a single bit.

So much electrical gremlins are caused by something simple....the hard part is perseverance until the problem is located!

You should probably put the factory fan and shroud back on. The difference in horsepower is minimal, most applications an electric fan will not out cool a mechanical fan with a clutch. Most electric fans CFM ratings are grossly exaggerated. They aren't all bad,but most are not an improvement over what your truck came with.

Would have to get a new one and all that. Don't have the old one.
Previous dude put the electric fans rad, and serpentine kit on.

Slightly off topic

But I've read that factory fan paired with an electrical fan for the ac condenser is a banging setup.
