Hi everybody

I don't know if there were a newbie introduction routine, so I''ll introduce me shortly.
I am Tim, 47 summers on this blue marble, 20 years of those with a 66 Ford Mustang (not the reason I am here) and soon a 74 C10 custom, 350cui and manual shift (thr car why I am here now).

It is my first Chevy, my first truck overall, and I must admit I am thrilled. I am finalizing the deal next week. Can't wait to get it on my driveway. Yeehaaa.
Btw, that driveway is in Germany so please be gentle on my english capabilities.

Well, here comes my first question. Can anyone tell me what that part on the thermostat housing is? There is a spring loaded pin in the middle that I can take out and put back. Motor starts and idles easy and smooth. Radiator is clean and flushed through when warmed up. That pin obviously currently has no use?

Anyone an idea?

Thanks for your ideas and Patience. I will come up with probably funny question in the future.
Tim

Welcome Tim from Central NC. That is a ported vacuum switch that the top half is missing. With the carb that you have there's no need in replacing that part. Show some pics of the truck too please.

Hi Strick
In operation what would it be doing? Some kind if emision control stuff?
Whatever, good to know it's no harm. I'll replace it most probably when I'll redo the engine bay.
Pics well, the truck is still at the shop and needs some work once i have it. But, for a brief look they'll do...

This is what want it to look like.

It is First color, straight body and no dent or scratch bed. That funky thing on the hood needs to go and all the plates and stickers.
I love the dumbo mirrors though one is broken glas. This is tough to find. Can some one tell me where to look? Tried lmc but i don't even find my mirrors there :-(

Looks like you have electric choke on the carb. The PVS works with the choke on the Q-jet that was a "stove" or hot air operation. It is also tied in with the emissions system with the distributor vacuum advance. If it's not leaking coolant then I'd let it ride.
Great looking ride as well.

Great, thank you for the link. I ordered two of the glasses already.

Sidenote, are that what people call dumbo?

Welcome from the Texas Panhandle.
That's a good lookin truck.
I'd probably change that thermostat housing to an older pre emissions style one.

You have never seen a bug/wind rock hood deflector?
Seen yes, the word for it i did not know. Thanks. Bug deflector sounds pretty much star trek to me....funny.
Well i find it ugly though. Remembers too much of these screens people put on their side windows to keep rain out while smoking during drive...

Way to go, yes. And probably get valve covers and stuff in that engine bay back to a more original look. Only the look though. The carb for instance will stay. But a laquered manifold i dont need

Thermo vacuum switch for the egr. EGR should be to the passenger side of the carbureator a few inches. Google EGR valve 1974 chevrolet 350 you should get a pic. Many people disable EGR if it was there and functioning I'd leave it. If I had access to parts cheap I'd make it work again. If I lived somewhere where parts are expensive and hard to come buy I wouldn't mess with it.
