Hey folks,

I recently bought a decent condition 1984 GMC Sierra 1500, and in Ontario, you need to get it appraised before registering it. I bought it for $1,500 CAD on paper but the appraised value will probably be much more. I'd have to pay tax on the higher of the appraised or selling price, and would like to keep both those numbers low.

My question is how can I temporarily disable the truck from even starting as "a truck that doesn't run" will definitely lower its value when the appraiser looks at it.

Thanks

Not sure how to comment on that one...

But in my part of the world, if you walk into a repair shop and get written estimates on replacing the engine, transmission, rear end etc - those estimates are deducted from the vehicle value at the time its registered.

The repair shop doesn't need to see the rig to set up an estimate for you. They will just take your word for it that it needs repair.

Put a hidden kill switch in it.

Unplug the distributor
It will crank but not start. Not good enough,Unplug the ignition switch. Still not good enough take the solenoid lead off at the starter. Depending on year just Unplug the neutral safety switch.

Neutral safety is the easiest regardless of trans type.

Not all squares have neutral safety switches. Not sure of the years. Maybe shouldn't have tagged anyone with that tid bit. But all squares do not have neutral safety switches so anyone following this, you may or may not have one.

Welcome! Any of the suggestions will work. Of course.
Literally dozens of ways to easily make it not start if that’s the goal.
If you really need to sell it as a pos for the appraiser, make it leak a couple - three different types of fluid too!

What happened to honesty? Wonder if God ever stops shaking his head at us fools. :whymewhyme:
Honesty? Lol. That’s funny when in the context of dealing with the govt. But I’m sure the OP would gladly let you cover the additional tax bill.

I work for the federal government but I'm responsible to something greater.
