If the day comes to where the trans fails I'll have my trans dude take it apart and find the problem. Post the issue and the solution. :)

I talked to a trans guy that's been building auto transmissions for 40+yrs
He said with a good cooler and the right clutch packs I shouldn't have a problem.... And that I should easily get 100 - 150k out of it.

I guess this is where our opinions differ the most. I expect a trans to be good for 200K.

Seriously when is the last time anyone's heard of a 700r4 lasting that long?

I guess this is where our opinions differ the most. I expect a trans to be good for 200K.

The only auto trans I'd ever expect 200,000 from is a Th400. Even a Th350 is doing good to get 150,000. A 700r4 is doing good to get 100,000 and if that's all you expect out of it, then you shouldn't be disappointed provided it was built right. Many builders don't build them right. Look how many Jim went thru in his Burb. I know that last problem he had, if it were built right, it would still be running today and he's still have his Burb. There is an orfice in the pump that needs opened up in some models to keep the front seal being being blown out. I do believe he had a chain reaction. First the front seal went, then the 2/4 band and the 3/4 clutch pack was right behind that.

I'm considering a 700r4 real hard for my C20 with 454. Mostly just for experimental or R&D purposes. Break it, Disect it and make it better til I get one that one that holds up to abuse. And I have full intention of towing in overdrive too. I will be using billet superhold 3/4 Servos though. That will hold the OD clutch pack tighter, less slippage = less heat. I'll also be using the Commercial Alto 3/4 clutch pack. Not the OEM pack or the Raysbestos Z pak.
