Wiper motor repair/adjustment

I have an issue with the wiper motor on my '84 and I've seen it on other trucks too. The problem is, the wipers are parked too high up on the windshield. When you turn the wipers on, they drop down (to where they SHOULD park) and then go up like they are supposed to. Normally, this would mean that the arm on the wiper motor is not installed correctly, but that's not possible... the shaft is keyed so the arm can only go on one way.

Is there any way to adjust the wiper motor itself? There is some kind of bolt that sticks out of the wiper motor body that looks like it's an adjustment for something. Could it possibly be for adjusting the park/off position?

Pretty much. I went through a couple motors because they were failing, ended up getting one for a newer model with a remote pump, now they park right where they should.

So the 85-up motor can be used with a little modification? Good to know.

It was a direct bolt-in deal. The plugs are the same, there's just the extra plug that will get wired to the remote pump instead. IIRC, the reddish/pink wire is the ground for the pump and the lighter wire is the positive.

I need to get my rear in gear and replace the wiper motor on my truck. Think I'll get an 85' up setup like you did. Do you have the check valve after your pump?

I put the check valve in the feed line, right off the factory washer tank. Then I mounted the pump below the fluid level, it works perfect.

There is an adjustment screw or bolt on the motor itself that controls the speed, it is located at the top of the motor next to the washer pump. you should try turning this in or out and see if it changes. If not then you need to replace the motor...
