I am new here and am looking for the information so I can order new headlights without looking too much like an idiot,
I have a 1990 GMC 6.2 Na Diesel, 700R4 2wd Suburban,
It seems as though you guys cut off the year at 87, But what about these newer rigs?
Mu first Suburban was a 76 with a 350, Then I had an 84 Blazer with 305 and a manual,,,,, Jump forward to a couple years ago and I bought this one,
I just rebuilt the 700R4 and need open headlight, I don't want to go with all the nutty modern alternatives, Just a nice OEM replacement for the driver outer low beam,
Its been a great ride for the past 4 years, I get nearly 25 Mph if Im real nice on highway and its geared pretty well as I do a 300 mile run at 75-80 the entire time and it still has a bit more in her,
Anyway,
Heres a pic from earlier today,
Peter B

The general bodystyle is usually referred to as the '73-'87 style, but Burbs, K5's and crew cabs retained the bodystyle through the '91 model year. They got a mild facelift in '89 and the upper trim levels got the style of headlights that your Burb has.

I don't know the trim level of mine but it does have front and rear air, Power windows and locks,
I would like to find the basic crank handle for the rear window someday as I prefer it over the electric operated one and its time to replace the headliner, Otherwise at 147K it runs very well and goes down the road amazingly smooth and quiet, The first time I take any one out in it they are amazed at how it quiets as we get past 40 Mph and at 50+ at a steady speed you can't tell its a diesel,
Good truck with some flaws,
I also from time to time consider lowering it about 2" to 4", as I mostly highway run the bugger between Phila and Pittsburgh pa which is 304 miles door to door,
Anyone know of a good lowering kit that will drop it about 3"?
Ill order a bulb monday,
Thank you for the information !

And the 1 ton standard pickups remained "square" through 1991 too, right?

I hope so, because that's what I've been telling people.

Welcome.

Two inches is a safe, cheap, and easy amount to lower your Suburban :imo:

I think it would look great!
Changing the coil springs is a good choice front, while different spring hangers is the go-to choice for the rear. $150 in parts?

I figure I can get better fuel mileage if I am a bit lower, No need to have 12" clearance as long as I can still tow my puny 1200 pound camper and my utility trailer Ide be happy,
So where would one search for these parts that you trust?
I am usually tinkering with older cars and don't buy much for new GMC as this one,
I was thinking of it costing $500 in parts or more,
Where do I sign up for the $150 in parts to lower the Suburban Challenge?

I found this kit,

That would be plenty low for me,

Looks nice, as mentioned local parts stores have the stock lights. I have upgraded mine to a newer bulb using nrwer housing from lmc and have been happy with the improvement in light output.

The square 1-tons carried on in cab&chassis form at least through the '89 model year. Not sure about through '91. Retro would know I'd bet.

But new body, regular cab, 1 ton trucks were available in the '88 model year. I think extended cabs too.

It seems that most pickups can lower four inches in the rear and achieve a "level" stance.
I don't know about suburbans, you should measure it. Hangers are MUCH more involved to swap.
Tape measure the distance between all 4 hub centers and the middle of the wheel well and see what you come up with. Likely four different numbers! :(
Stuff like that drives some people crazy though, be warned!

You COULD spend much, much less and cut the springs yourself...Rather than replace them. One coil = Two inches. (about)
Hangers can be had for $40-50 bucks or less!
I shop on eBay a lot.

Here ya go. I searched "91 suburban drop shackles"
$39 bucks. Made in USA, lifetime warranty.

I found this on eBay and thought you might like it! Check it out now: http://r.ebay.com/wXYyrU

Got an air compressor and a cut off wheel? :D

There is an air dam that will attach to the front bumper. I think that's high but it's the first one I found. They can probably be had for $40.

That should improve mileage in theory, right? Plus they look cool!
