what is this on my firewall??

Hi guys Im restoring my 81 k20 4x4 sm465 and wondering what this vent looking sheet metal is on passenger side of firewall, right beside and level with the top of the trans tunnel, looks like its some kind of retainer maybe for air conditioner or something for auto trans?? anyone know thx for the help.
