Hey guys. Im new round here and am wanting to absorb as much info as I can about my ol Square Bod. To start off with, I wanna know more about these 6.2s. Any info is good info!

How reliable are they?
How expensive are they to maintain?
What kind of power/mpgs can I expect?
Do they have common issues?
Do they have free/cheap power adders?
Etc etc etc

Thanks guys!

Well, I'm no expert and have not personally owned one, just known guys with them. But my old boss loved them and had several 6.2 Burbs, he used them to haul trailer loads of scrap, as well as loads of engine/trans cores. He never had one give him any trouble and he put a lot of miles on them.

Power, they basically have none. But they work like an old tractor and can get the job done, it just happens slowly. However there was (still is?) a Banks turbo setup that could be added.

I think most of the problems were with the early 6.2's. Just don't try to treat them like they are a race motor and they should be fine. Oh, I think there's a potential issue with the harmonic damper, if it gets loose I think it can ruin the crank. Oh yeah, and the starter too, make sure the brace is not missing from the front of the starter.

I have a couple trucks with the 6.2's in them myself. A good running 6.2 runs like a stock 350 Chevy most of the time. I get 16 mpg in my military M1028a2 and 24 in my military M1009. I'm going be swapping one in my blue wrecker soon if all goes well to.

I have heard a popular number of 22mpg. I think hp is 130, and tq is 265, coming in at 1400 rpm.

Thanks for the info guys!

I drove the Dooly 60 miles round trip yesterday without a problem! I was surprised at how well this old truck drove honestly. I filled er up before I left and the gauge barely moved! That makes me a happy feller :)
