I'm sure this is a stupid question but I'd rather know then burn up the gauge. How to I wire the Brown wire under hood? I have a 12v Cummins so my alternator doesn't have a post for the gauge. I have 12v on the Brown wire under hood but I thought I needed to hook it to a 12v system supply to make the gauge work... Help

This dwg shows the brown wire as connected via the same harness clip as the 2 reds.

Not to say that that it is connected to the reds - the reds connect to pin 2 and the brown goes in through pin 26.

Yeah, I know where it goes on a stock alternator but what is pin 26 or the brown wire providing; 12v, 5v, ground, variable voltage for field excitation, ...? The gauge seems to read with the brown wire unhooked but I'm not sure what it's reading. :wtf2:
