Things just got a lot more complicated. Does the A/C work?

No it doesnt. I took out the condenser and the accumulator (?) when i did my ls swap. I really only need defrost but other heat functions would be nice. That video was helpful. My door is broken, i noticed that the other day, i am stuck at work today but might try to pop the box out i guess at this point. I dont want to disconnect my heater core though

look at the bright side:

one of my dodge buddies had a double cab and a giant rottweiler.
...driving on a 4 lane. the dog suddenly jumped into the front passenger seat and started to cry.

before the guy got the truck stopped, and the door opened the dog had put his butt-hole to a vent in the dash and had projectile diarrhea-ed into it.

this was a like new truck in 2004...(now needing the vents pried open, hosed down / dehumidified, vacuumed, ... fumigated)....weeks of fun.

Lmfao would definitely sell the truck if this happened

well, he would only keep a truck 2-4 years anyway. ...and the dog was a good boy and a true giant = 180lbs. big / tall / muscular/ fat. (so,. small dogs have an distinct advantage in such sh;tty times,... he still has rottweilers and dodges, and a $25,000 john deere tractor to roll the manure pile they make )

Gonna try to just pull the inside part out. It wasnt super clear in the video.
Im hoping the heater core isnt mounted to the inside part.
This truck isnt exactly resto worthy although it is mechanically sound, i dont think its worth “converting” to non ac as long as the existing box is functional which i believe it is

Im running the a/c style box under the dash and have a modified non a/c blower housing on engine side of firewall and my heater works.

The dash doesn’t need to be removed but you will have to remove the glovebox to remove the vents. It will be easier if you remove the dash pad. The heater/AC box in the engine area is not that hard to remove either. Once removed, clean everything since it will be dirty and dusty from 50 years of zero maintenance. Once cleaned, it will be like factory original. During assembly, get some shiny hvac tape to seal up the cracks and crevices, you will also need to buy some thicker weather stripping for some connecting areas so it’s better than factory.

A little trick when you are making inspection holes in whatever. Us a hole saw now you have a perfect patch to put back in place.

Before cutting any holes, see if anyone you know has an inspection camera/borescope type camera that you can snake in there and get a visual before tearing it all apart. You may not have a nest - a critter may have just decided that your windshield looked a little dirty and gave it a yellow pressure-wash, which would run down into the vents and stink to high heaven. Happened to a former boss one time - stray cat gave him the worst smelling ride of his life.

A coworker put a fish under someone he was mad at seat. But then he put minnows down the heater/defrost ducts. So when the car started to stink he'd find the fish,get rid of it but just think the smell was leftover from the fish.

I've heard of those who get evicted etc throwing stinky stuff down into the ductwork / vents of houses before exiting. Definitely mean.

We had a guy that would grease people's door handles if they ticked him off, once he wrapped a guy's doors shut going over under with the heavy duty wrap from the palletizer and used the whole roll had like an inch thick of wrap around the entire cab of his truck.

We had a guy that would grease people's door handles if they ticked him off, once he wrapped a guy's doors shut going over under with the heavy duty wrap from the palletizer and used the whole roll had like an inch thick of wrap around the entire cab of his truck.

The only one we had was, when I used to work HVAC, we’d take one of those heavy duty duct zip ties and tie it to someone’s driveshaft

Yeah thats kind of a lot of work to look for something that might not even be in there. Kind of why i made the post. Oh well time to sell the truck i guess. ???

It’ll be 40 years old in 2 years. Unless you can verify it’s newer, the heater core is going to puke soon anyways, and the vacuum lines probably need replaced and 40 years of dust unless it was a garage queen and if it smells like piss it needs cleaned.
And it’s not horrible to do. Took me about 2 hours to remove and 1 hour to reinstall. Mine just needed a heater core. Next time around it would be out in an hour.
Just saying I couldn’t drive my classic rig around smelling like the bathroom at a sketchy gas station. That’s all.
Or you could drill a peep hole, drill thru the heater core and then remove it and patch a hole.
