Does the vacuum line from the tranny have to be on the intake or can it be on the back of the carb?

It doesn't matter as long as it is a constant vacuum source. The one behind the carb or the one on the rear of the carb will do the same thing for you. Most guys need the rear carb port to run the vacuum booster for the brakes but if you have hydro boost brakes then you can use either one for the transmission line.

There's a special fitting that was used to connect the steel tubing to the manifold. If you don't have it go to the JY. The steel tubing inserts into that fitting. Same thing on the modulator end.

The rubber only really serves to mechanically maintain the seal between the tubing and the fitting/modulator.

Since the rubber can collapse inward, it should have no exposure to vacuum. That is why the actuating line is entirely made of steel - as opposed to running a length of rubber hose down to the modulator. These images are bad but they might help explain:

It is actually better to go directly to the intake manifold. I have also ran them direct to a full vac port on the back of the carb too and it worked fine for a Th350. So either will work, but direct to the intake manifold as intended is certainly best.
