So the other day I went to start my truck and nothing. Shifted it to reverse and back to park...starts right up. I had to do that for a half dozen times or so before it wo ull ldnt start even doing that. So I shifted it to neutral and itll start right up. I know theres a position sensor on the tranny and I'm assuming this is going bad but can anyone verify this or give me a troubleshooting tutorial?

Appreciate ya.

There is a neutral safety switch I believe at the base of your steering column in the floor check to see if the wires are loose wiggle things around to see if it makes any differance

The switch is located at the base of the steering column the purple wires are for the starter and the green are the backup lights

If it starts in neutral, the switch should be good.
Maybe the linkage has slop in it, and even though it's going into Park, it's not activating the switch.

Gearing up for a hunt this weekend so I'll get back to tinkering next week. Thanks for the input.

Before replacing my old cab bushings, the cab had settled enough to throw the linkage out of alignment. It would start in Park, but not Neutral. After replacing the cab bushings everything came into alignment and it starts in both shifter positions. My point is that the Neutral safety operation is affected by both cab and transmission vertical alignment, although you should be able to adjust it and get it to work in both positions.

Check the rubber and plastic bushings on the shifter linkage. If there is any slop there you will have a rough time getting the switch adjusted correctly.

I had same problem. New NSS and careful adjustment solved the problem.
