Way to vague....

Any trans? Or only factory options for a Sub? Budget? Purpose? Powerful as in handling horsepower or taking abuse?

Imo, a manual will always be more durable than it's auto counterpart. A manual is made up of steel gears and bearings vs an auto that uses small clutch packs, bushings and fluid pressure to operate.

Well lets see here,

A manual tranmission is USUALLY stronger then an automatic. However there are acceptions that need to be made. BUT keep in mind a good builder can CERTAINLY build an automatic to handle the abuse of everyday towing and hauling.

The trick to having an automatic perform day in and day out is proper maintance AND PROPERLY SIZED gear ratios and tire sizes.

I don't know about manual being stronger either. I've sure broke my share of manuals. Many more than autos for sure. Both have their advantages and both have their weaknesses. Hard to kill an SM465 or NV4500 though if you want to go manual for towing.
