Hello,

I have read in the forum "67-72chevytrucks.com" that the article that I attached on my first post has been published in the Truckin' magazine in 1987.
So I have bought all the Truck'in magazines from 1987 (nice to read by the way) and I found it => Truckin' magazine, June 1987, page 20. Here is a high quality scan from the front page and a scan of the full page ;-)

Nice one, in a perfect condition! I see you don't have the Smittybilt tube bumpers too (I have only the rear one). I believe that either owners did not like them or, once damaged, it was impossible to find a new one.

I have both smittybilt tube bumpers, took them off after purchase, didn,t want to drill into them to mounts plates or ding them up. Plus, I could mount the smittybilt roll bar and brush guards.

Lucky you! I have been looking for a front bumper for 2 years now and I think the only way to have one is to ask a professional to build it for me, which, regarding the costs, would make sense only if I redo a full paint job with reprinted original stickers.
FYI I have contacted Smittybilt also but they don't have a classic/restoration department and of course they don't produce this bumper anymore.

In parallel, I'm in contact with GM Archives to find new documents about this special edition. The archives have been relocated this year and they could not access all the documents until recently. So let's see if they can find something new.

Very few trucks received the sunroof, it was after market option the dealers could install, no trucks came from factory with sunroofs. Bedliners were also an option from dealers. Once the trucks were acquired by dealers, they could add additional items, or the customer could request at time of purchase.

Hi 87Sundancer, a question for you : my rear bumper is the original Smittybilt one and I would like to repaint it. Today, it is painted in a kind of grey/ light metal blue color, do you know if it is the original color for Sundancers or if there were originally black (like most of the Smittybilt bumpers available today) ?

And a question to everybody : do you know a company able to rebuild the original front bumper ?

I have recently installed 2 pairs of Bilstein shocks, similar to the original ones, their colors are matching the truck colors + I am now compliant with the Sundancer original specificities !

The Smittybilt tube bumpers were painted at Classic Conversions to match the lower metallic grey body paint. As far as I know these bumpers are no longer manufactured, you could reach out to Smittybilt and see if they are able to produce one for you. Otherwise, you could find a tube maker/welder that could fabricate one for you using your rear bumper as a template, but you would still need the end caps to seal the bumper! You could reach out to anyone on these GM truck or off-roading sites that might have one sitting around discarded, also wrecking yards in the US.

I have never come across any tube bumpers, roll/push bars, or any accessories from these trucks on any sites, much less one of these being parted out or restored. There out there if you put the word out to the community. I'll see if I can locate a front tube bumper here in California for you.

And your shocks are correct!!!

Thanks a lot for the information about the color! I have reached Smittybilt but they don't produce on demand and they don't have a classic department. In France, there are some welders that could do it but I would prefer to have an original one and I'm ready to pay transport/custom fees for that.
For the end cap, I'm quite good in 3D printing, I just need to scan one of them, from the rear bumper, and I will be able to print new ones in ABS or nylon.
I also saw these ones on Ebay but not sure that it is the same size (3") :

Hi,

I have bought a bed/tonneau cover for my truck. Ordered 6 months ago from US, price X2 with transport / Tax&Duties but it looks nice! Not fully hermetic unfortunately but it does protect goods better than before.
