Just picked up an 87 v10 with a Jasper 350, 8” lift on 35”s. It came with 37”s that I’d like to throw on. I plan on doing steering upgrades, my main concern is that it’s on 1/2 ton axels still. It will “occasionally” go off road, little mud, hunting rig, drive it instead of motorcycles when snow hits etc. My question is will those 37’s screw anything up? Should I look into swapping to 1 tons axels to run them or drop to a 6” and run the 35”s that are on now?

Looks like tons of fun as it sits.
The 37's would just bolster that fun even more.
But I have no idea about the axle question.

What are you gonna do for wheels? 6 lug vs 8 lug.

Have you priced a GM Dana 60, oh in the last 5 years or so?

What traction device if any is in the rear?

The stock axles would be ok if you're only driving on pavement or dirt roads.
My offroad driving friends say not bigger than 35s on the half ton axles. For harder offroad use even smaller like 33s.
You can beef up the stock stuff but that's not cheap too.
Best would be to find 1 ton axles.

Nice truck!
What @bucket said…gear ratios will determine if you’re helping or hurting on road driving characteristics with bigger tires compared to the power loss simply from size.
Axles? Pffffft. Who cares…It will be fine. Horsepower and catching traction suddenly doing a 40mph burnout breaks axles.
Jasper 350 does not seem like an axle breaking powerhouse and if you know how to use the skinny pedal, the latter isn’t really an issue either imo.
Now if you want or need to re-gear it or want/need bigger and better brakes without spending big bucks on aftermarket brake system I’d consider that a good value if you found the right set of 3/4 ton axles.
Unless you’re planning on big power or extreme payloads or rodding or wheeling the **** out of it the truck doesn’t need 1 ton axles nor the additional expense of a D60. Same goes for a semi floater vs full floater rear. You’d have to triple the horsepower or be hauling 5klb payloads before you actually need a full floater.
Just my 2c.

Sounds like you are going to use it off road. If you arent set on the look and want more functionality
Drop it keep the 35"s. Even the 35" are a lot of tire for your brakes axles trans depending on what trans you have and gear ratio. I would personally not run 35" without 4.56 gears for 350 400 or 700R4. I love 35" for clearance but i would keep the overall height just enough to have full travel. tall=tipsy depending on the off roading you are planing. Get tons of info first and do it once. ORD is one epic source of parts with knowledgeable staff IMO
You have an epic truck now go and have fun
