Thoughts on wheel adapters?

What is everyone's thoughts on wheel adapters? I'm thinking of getting a set for the '77 that'd change my bolt pattern from 5x5 to 6x139.7. The reason behind this is choice of rim grows exponentially at that point and opens up your choices to late model GM OEM rims and I'm thinking about possibly finding some GMT800 or GMT900 rims if I can find a style that'd look good.

What are your alls thoughts on adapters?

Eh to run later style rims I wouldn't. But that is mainly because the newer rims don't suit our trucks imho.

I also thought newer style rims had a different backspacing?

I think the 5 lug to 5 lug adapters are good but I hear the 5 lug to 6 lug are two piece which make them less safe. I would probably consider a 6 lug rotor and 6 lug axle swap before I used 5 to 6 adapters.

I think you may be correct.

If I did an axle swap I'd probably just swap the entire rear out and do a disc brake conversion at the same time. :hmm: You've made a good point here, John :) I wonder how much work would be involved to swap in a GMT800 or GMT900 rear? :popcorn:

Easier to get a K10 rear end or just axle and drum swap to your current housing, otherwise you have to deal with welding in spring perches, shock mounts, setting pinion angle, u-joint conversion, and probably adapting the e-brake cables.
