I have Milwaukee, Makita, Hercules, and Snap On. And some old Ryobi, but the batteries have pretty much called it quits.

My Milwaukee stuff started with three old M18 drills, two batteries and two chargers for $10 total. Like 2008 old. They all still work mostly lol. I started adding to the collection with the 1/2” high torque (at the time, 2019), catching things on various deals here and there. I have amassed a pretty good collection of M12 and M18 stuff.

Makita I have because Tractor Supply had messed up a promo deal about 5 years ago, it was supposed to be buy a drill and impact kit for like $279, get a free tool. They had it backwards of buy the free tool (I got the inflator) and get the drill and impact for free. So I got three tools, charger and two batteries for $99.

Hercules I got because I wanted a 1/4 square impact without spending Milwaukee money, and got the 3” sander polisher. Both work well for what they are.

Snap on is a 3/8 cordless ratchet my dad found on the side of the road. Had to buy a charger for it.

This probably doesn’t help any, but for me the stuff I have and use is pretty situational.

I do that, and also Home Depot and Tractor Supply. Might end up at HD because of gift cards, basically discounted or free

Good point, I checked Home Depot and found the same saw/battery deal for $30 less. Goes until October 31st as well, instead of ending today.

And at these prices one can almost afford to experiment with 3rd party batteries, I just don't like leaving them on chargers unattended but that's with any Lipo battery:

A friend was given some Temu Milwaukee batteries. Only way i know this is there was a battery laying in the driveway. I picked it up and said Adam I found this in your driveway I didn't want it to get rained on. He told me I don't want it in my house,my uncle gave me these he h
got off temu. This one started smoking,I was afraid it was going to catch fire,so I threw it outside. I won't touch them,you want them? No I didn't.

A friend was given some Temu Milwaukee batteries. Only way i know this is there was a battery laying in the driveway. I picked it up and said Adam I found this in your driveway I didn't want it to get rained on. He told me I don't want it in my house,my uncle gave me these he hot off temu. This one started smoking,I was afraid it was going to catch fire,so I threw it outside. I won't touch them,you want them? No I didn't.

Yup, sometimes it's a crap shoot, with emphasis on crap, but so far I've been good to go with mine.

I took over a guys email at work who got fired a few years ago so I could straighten out his mess.
If I ever had a thought of clicking on Temu prior to that, it was squashed immediately following the 6 or 9 spam emails a day and their refusal to unsubscribe that email. Had to block sender. And I’m not sure Temu didn’t get around that.
It also helped explain why this guy couldn’t seem to do his job worth a fck. If you’re a senior project manager for 8 figure construction projects and you’re surfing Temu, you have issues! Lol

I think littering a Molotov cocktail, and attempted arson are actually against the law.

my municipal dumps/ transfer stations want them,... (so old junk, or new junk, NO fee to pay,...and any day is good, not just special haz-mat days)
.they just want them empty so they don't set the receptacles on fire.
(hopefully recycled into a better battery)

Found this at Home Depot. Has everything I need except for the 1/2” impact. Kinda want a 3/8’s impact also to round out the group. Tempted to sell everything and start over with this. Definitely overkill for what I’m doing, but would last me forever. So after two days or research, I still don’t know what I’m doing lol.

I'm a industrial mechanic. We use Milwaukee tools exclusively. Some I own, some are company owned. They tend to hold very well to extreme abuse. Tools like grinders, drills and blowers work better with 8ah and 12ah batteries, they tend not to overheat as quickly. We use Metabo corded tools also, they are awesome. Milwaukee gets my vote.

Still not really any closer to figuring out what I want to do. However, I’ve still been researching and what I’m finding out is that even though dewalt costs more, their lower end tools are still brushed. If you want brushless, you’re getting into $220 plus price range per tool, without batteries. The sawzall I currently have is a brushed model, which may explain some of the issues I had. But it’s $100+ to step up to the brushless model. Same with the circle saws, $160 gets the brushed model and $230+ gets you into the brushless line.

That being said, I’m researching kobalt again. Their batteries are generally cheaper, and it looks like most of their models are brushless for the same or nearly the same as the brushed dewalt models. For casual homeowner stuff, they should be sufficient without breaking the bank. I’ve used the 1/2” impact since 2020 and it’s always done what I asked. Maybe I should stick with something that has worked well for me. I have quite a few handheld tools from kobalt as well, and I don’t actually have any complaints from any of them. I’ve done everything from ATV tire changes, to brake jobs to full mechanical repairs with them. Out of all my current lineup, the dewalt would likely be the easiest to sell second hand.

Or maybe I should leave well enough alone and find something else to analyze to death.
