The Elusive 12 bolt 3/4 Ton 8 Lug Axle

Any body ever see or hear of the heavy half 12 bolt 8 lug axle ?


Here are some pics I found online. I am still waiting to get some pics of my ol mans 84 with the 12 bolt 8 lug axle. When I do I will post them up too.


This is an 87 8 lug 3/4 ton with 10 and 12 bolt axles w/ TH 400/208. Same as my ol mans.


Sorry the pics are so small but you can still clearly see the shape of the 12 bolt vs the 14 SF

i gotta say that looks like a GM 9.5 SF 14 bolt

looks like 14 bolts around the diff cover, with 3 being on the bottom like the 9.5 14 sf.

that pic of the truck is from the add you linked. There are 3 bolts across the bottom of the diff cover instead of 2 that the 12 bolt has.

That's so weird the cover is the wrong shape but it has 14 bolts. That would explain my confusion lol

lol. At a glance the covers are kinda similar. especially with some of these ID charts on the web. It's not easy to find one that shows them all and is still legible when you expand it to read.

Lol, I gotta say, I'm diggin' the title you gave this thread

A 14 bolt semi-floater and a 12 bolt certainly do look alike at a glance though, it's understandable that it caused a little confusion.
