I had to replace the governor gear recently and now I’m getting a leak from the governor cover. It appears to be fully seated. I used silicone to seal it per a recommendation.

For those of you with more experience is the o-ring a better sealing choice or not?

I was told the O-ring is hard to keep from getting buggered up when putting the cover on

Not really sure what your working on, but I can tell you this. If you clean the surfaces thoroughly with alcohol, and the use this sealant, it will not leak. I have successfully patched slashed sidewalls on tires with this stuff. Its heavy duty liquid rubber in a can that will aggressively stick to a clean surface once its dry. I have never seen it fail when applied properly. You could transport a car from one city to another just by "gluing" the roof of the car to the belly of the plane with this stuff.
