On my 81- duel tanks- not hooked , I don't need or want all that b/s back there or the switch in the cab- when I dis-connect the valve pig tali by tank- the fuel gauge goes way past full- do I need to ground one of those wires??

its been on the drivers tank forever-if ya flip the cab switch get ready to use your thumb- ?? Theres no return lines or vapor lines either--
Thought it easiest an best to go single tank,,,

when you unplug it you are also unplugging the tank sending unit. so you would have to jump that wire. do you want to remove all that wiring. in that case you would have to run a new wire form the sending unit to the gauge. highdesertranger

On an 81 there should only be 3 wires running back to the tank switching valve. A light green, a dark green, and a pink.

They are in the same loom as the rear lighting cable:

gggggg

Dwg showing what can be pulled out and the pink wire that needs to be run to the production (LH) tank:

Not all marked up:

You don't need to run a whole new pink wire from the cab, just splice it to the lead that goes to the production tank (pink/white)
