I prefer stock but the most I'd suggest doing is just blacking out the grille (leave the headlight bezels gray). I've never likes the total blackout because from 100' you might mistake it for a beater with no grille or anything, just headlights on a core support.

My favorite square grill....wish mine was a Jimmy just so I could use it.

Maybe try it in a darker silver / charcoal?

Can’t go wrong with stock, especially if the rest of the truck is. Believe me its hard to resist the temptation, but once you start, where do you stop?
