Aw man, a 4.3, stick shifter, 1/2 ton, foh-by. That's neat. :hump:

Yep.

Flex and Flywheel the same thing?

Sorry guys im still learning

Flexplate is for autos, flywheels are for a standard trans. Since the '86 has a flywheel for a 1-pice rear main seal type crank, it won't work in a motor witch a 2-pice rear seal. Otherwise, I've been told that the 4.3 flex/flywheel works on a 350.

And the dipstick went from the driver's side to the passenger side in '80.

Basically same thing. Generally speaking and politically correct, an Auto trans gets a thinner ligher "flexpalate", a manual transmission get the heavier thicker "flywheel" that the clutch bolts to.

I think the balancers/ balancing method are different for the 2 piece seal engines too.

I'm not certain but I think the 4.3 is externally balanced just like the smallblock 400, the motor mounts and fan shroud are different too you might run into some other minor differences but all easily overcame with a trip to your friendly neighborhood junkyard. Bellhousing and clutch are in the same spot and bolt up fine tho.

Got a list of what I need to get to make this compatible with my 86.

Flywheel
Balencer
exhaust, and manifolds
distributor wires

While i am down there i am going to throw a new clutch on and replace the TOB.

Experts chime in, Thanks
