Does anyone have any advice on how to keep fenders rigid after trimming them? I have a 1985 suburban and I'm planning on trimming both sides of the fender/s. I saw a video on youtube of someone trimming there's, and noticed that the fenders are loose because they are no longer attached to the fender well. Is there a step normally taken after that to connect the fenders back, or is that normally how they are left?

What amount of trim have you planned? Are you adding fender flares? Flares add stability and hide the cut line.

I plan on trimming them to have the same look as these photos. I don't plan on adding flares, the trimming would strictly be to have large tires

To have a stock look it wil take a lot of body work. I would at least fabricate a connection between the fender and fender well to add stability.

I trimmed my fenders (which wasn't hard due to all the rust). And you're right. The fender flaps around there as it is unsupported.

You might look into getting an axle relocation plate or a zero rate block and move the axle forward instead. It is easier to trim the front of a fender- remove the "fang".

Keep in mind at full stuff leaf springs flatten out and send the tire rearward so you need even more room then you might think.
